If you click 'Meteor New Connection' in the OP, you can then check availability by store.

No stores showing in Carlow, but Waterford & KK have stock.

Just a note on this, Maynooth is showing as in stock (@79.99), but they don't have stock. They're not sure if they'll be getting stock (@49.99) again, but they've been told to start recommending alternative handsets.

    is the price in-store still 49.99 ??

Anyone know if it is still in Meteor shops at the €49.99 price?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,530 ✭✭✭✭km79

Yes its via email - I had to phone him Friday morning as I heard nothing back but by late evening on Friday I had my code by email. He was a bit stroppy with me but he does what he says on the tin.

Delighted with the phone now and even with the unlock code charge it worked out half what it would have cost in Tesco which is the network I am on too.:D
Still waiting for my code :(

None in Nutgrove or The Becon.

Got one in Blanch but I would ring first as stock levels in Dublin very low in shops.

I think what cgarvey said would suggest not, don't you?

I got one in Liffey Valley this morning for €49.99. It took them a while to find it so I suspect there were few if any left

Order placed on the 13th, money held in the bank and still no phone. I emailed customer service 2 days ago and they came back yesterday looking for personal details to verify identity.
    Still no further on

I'm of the opinion that they're much better than Android handsets (the majority anyway), especially with 8.1. The app gap is there (buy closing fast), but there's always third party apps

The thing of it is, with this phone youre getting 80-90% of the experience for a tiny price. If you were to buy an Android for the same cost, you'd maybe be getting 40% of the experience if youre lucky. And you'd be dealing with a buttload of lag as time progresses.

Experience of what? Experience of owning a Windows phone...then surely it should be 100%?
Are you really trying to claim that a windows phone is more of a smartphone experience than a customisable android which is leading the field in terms of apps and possibility?

Buy an android for sub €100 and you'll have an "experience" of android, it definitely won't be 100% because you will have to delete apps, constantly reboot just to get it working & best of luck if you get a phone call while using an app/game.
Btw I had all of the above experiences on my last 3 androids.
    HTC one x
    Sony xperia play
    Huawei ascend g300

I really have to explain this? Windows Phone is designed from the ground up to scale well to all specs and configs. A phone you can buy for 50 Euro (Lumia 520) will be relatively comparable in speed and ability to a 6" 700 Euro beast like the Lumia 1520. Obviously, there are some compromises in hardware, but you're getting the lion's share of the experience, and it's a good one at that. To add to this, the lowest specced Windows Phone (520) can run 99% off all Windows Phone apps as of July 2013

Buy an Android for 50 Euro and see where it gets you.

They not only cancel the order but lie about the reason!

They told me the last day I rang that they would be getting more stock in and that my order was on back-order so would be sent when stock arrived, Now they are saying that i somehow did something wrong and they cancelled the order. best of luck to them with this type of behaviour.

Right it seems to be a generic excuse at this stage...anywhere to make a complaint

I've emailed asking what terms and conditions I haven't met......

Thank you for contacting The Carphone Warehouse.

I'm sorry but I cannot advise what requirements you have not met on this occasion.

I can confirm that the Nokia Lumia 520 handset is currently out of stock. Our warehouse have confirmed that the manufacturer cannot provide any dates for when the stock is likely to be delivered and therefore due to this declaration from the manufacturer, all outstanding orders have been cancelled and refunded.

Please accept my sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused.

    I emailed back. .....
So you have not met your terms and conditions not me, is that correct?
    Regards,

    Agreed.
A comparable Android bargain would be the Moto G 8GB at about 149e, 3 times the cost of the bargain alert Lumia 520.
All other cheap androids are absolutely useless.

    Are they expensive to unlock?

I met recently family of three, all working normal decent people, just not geeky enough. All three with android samsung phones, all three without account/market activated. Using phones just to make calls/TXTs. I told them to get Windows Phone mobiles, but after all I think they wouldn't mind.

Carphone Warehouse are ****bags, I got an email to say the stock is back in, so I ordered the phone, they took my money. ..next thing you get a lie of an email about not meeting the criteria. ..more bull****e...then another telling the truth when I challenged the 1st reason..fcukers.
I spent my money on this phone for a birthday present for my wife..now I have to go find some more money (could take 12 days to process my refund) and get another gift..Scumbag company.
They should be avoided, with business practices like this.

I think at this point we may need a moderators note that bargain phones through carphone warehouse.ie website may be unlikely to be delivered.

Here's a post I made when they offered the HTC One S/X, took payment, cancelled orders and then took weeks (or months!) to refund. And I link to when they did the same thing for the Samsung Wave.

Good luck to everyone here with getting your money back, I hope it will be quick for you this time!

Surely this is false advertising as they clearly did not have the stock..
