did anyone have any luck with alternative (ie cheaper) unlockers? I bought one of these for my dad thinking unlocking was only a tenner or so...

No real point in waiting. Updating takes 5 mins of actual work and maybe an hour to an hour and a half for the (two) updates to download and install.

Well worth taking the time to do it. The actual official roll out will take ages to spread to all devices, it depends on OEMs and carriers adding their own **** to the firmware.

Any other bits they do thrown in can be updated on top of the raw preview build when they release

Ye I just went ahead and installed the developer preview app there, and it unlocked something and now I was able to update to 8.1. The first thing I noticed last night was that i was pretty slow, but it seems to have settled. OR else I've become accustomed to the new slowness.

I still don't see the attraction to this phone. I've a HTC One in the shop, a Moto G sitting idle, but I got this to test Windows Phone. Its a bit of a novelty but I think I'll switch to the Moto G soon enough, and confine this to a desk somewhere. Although I'm goin to Spain in the summer so this might be the perfect phone for that! :p

I will be going to a shop to do it after the unsuccessful unlock website. Did get money back from them though.

Can anyone recommend repair shop I can bring it to in Galway? €30 I assume

I will be returning mine tomorrow. Back of phone or the screen must be loose - keeps clicking.

There was just a massive update from Spotify, it's now at version 3.0 and is pretty much up to speed with other platforms (except for the free streaming you get on PC and iOS)

Yup. Just be careful entering the numbers. You only get I think 3 attempts.
If it doesn't work the first time contact the code's supplier.

Twice now i've received a call on this phone and was unable to answer it due to its slowness.
I got "Swipe up" and repeatedly tried to swipe up and nothing happened. Ended up missing the calls.

I think its only since I upgraded to WP 8.1 though.

I've never had that problem on any Windows Phone, 8.0. or 8.1. It shouldn't matter if your phone has low end specs, all devices run very well on the OS.

Try a soft reset. Hold the power button and volume down button for 10-15 seconds and it should shut off and reboot. This basically just gives it a kick up the arse, and it seemed to work when I had to try it once.

same happened to me the other day. I had music on etc I think trying to do to much too quick will slow it down a bit

Or you could go with this for 25 euro:

I did it yesterday and got mine unlocked no bother. Took about a day.

I purchased that Friday night . Have heard nothing back.
Is it via email the code comes ?

Belated thanks to the op.. Picked one up last week, and seems like great value from the bit of messing round with it I've done so far..

I've a hunch it might work on Emobile without being unlocked, but can't try it as I've a standard sim and this takes micro sim..

Could anyone verify this hunch before I go cutting up my sim?
(If not, I'll wait to unlock the phone until closer to when I need it (got it for music festivals mostly, so I won't be worried about losing it)..

Yes its via email - I had to phone him Friday morning as I heard nothing back but by late evening on Friday I had my code by email. He was a bit stroppy with me but he does what he says on the tin.

Delighted with the phone now and even with the unlock code charge it worked out half what it would have cost in Tesco which is the network I am on too.:D
I send pm via eBay yday evening. He was stroppy with me too :D
Hopefully have the code today

Definitely works with eMobile SIM out of the box (no messing with unlocks needed). Been using it in a spare phone for a couple of weeks now - bought in CPW on Meteor, but eMobile SIM used instead.

eMobile and Meteor have the same parent company, so yes, SIMs are interchangeable between the two networks.

Same goes for 48 SIMs; can be used on O2 phones

Has anyone that ordered online with Carphone Warehouse when they came back into stock last Monday received their phone yet?

My order status shows "ready" but delivery date shows "Unavailable". Rang the CC line and they suggested I wait till today and there is no change so I rang again only to be told by someone else that for Irish orders I must email them on CUSTOMERCAREIE-CPW-IE@cpwplc..com.

If you click 'Meteor New Connection' in the OP, you can then check availability by store.

No stores showing in Carlow, but Waterford & KK have stock.

Thanks OP nice phone and I only came to BA looking for something else which i cannot now recall. Been interested in that phone for a while and a chance to try it at 50 uro is a good deal. I like it and find it very fast and clean interface. Only thing i do not like is all the pre opt ins not OP's fault of course

Rang the customer service number provided on the page (1800 something), only to be told their tracking system was down and to e-mail the above (minus one of the ".").

Just received reply from customer care asking for follow-up details before they can check order status!
