I'm 99% sure it WON'T void your warranty, especially with a Nokia Phone, seeing as their Devices division is now a PART of Microsoft, who deliver this update.

Its not hacking, jailbreaking or rooting. This is an almost final code of an update that will be officially rolling out to all existing 8.0 handsets in June. This is just a preview for "developers" (something like 1.5 million "developers" have already previewed 8.1, lol).

If youre looking for any particular apps and cant find them, let me know and I'll try to tell you some quality alternatives or third party apps. Or even just a list of apps in general!
I would like a list of good apps if ya don't mind please :-)
Also what app store to use ?

Well, there is only one curated store, the one that's included on your phone. You cant DL apps from the web here.

MyTube is a brilliant Youtube client.

Readit is a FANTASTIC reddit app, best I've ever used.

All the Nokia camera apps are good.

Use 6snap and 6tag for Snapchat and Instagram, respectively. The man behind them, Rudy Huyn, is always updating them.

Windows Phone Central is a great app for keeping abreast of what's happening with Windows Phone, news, reviews etc.

Magnify (in beta) is a stunning news aggregator that I use. Weave is also a pretty good alternative.

Jack of Tools Pro is great for measuring velocity, height and so on

Ravelle is a nice app for adding captions to photos

Theyre the best exclusive apps I can think of now, but there's many, many more. Plus all the major apps you'd find elsewhere (most of them anyway, Flipboard is still "coming" :'( )

Apologies for lack of links and poor formatting, on mobile

I was in CW in Carlow and they said they're getting more on Monday so presumably nationwide. They also said that the huawei y300 (I think) was reduced down to €60 as well. No interest to me but someone else might be interested.

Will check back monday then. Not going for Huawei, had a couple already. Low-end Android devices are terrible.

What about available COLOURS. Did you guys all go for the standard colour? Would love a blue device.

You can change the screen colour in the settings and buy a blue battery cover on E bay for around £5

Looks like cex unlocks Nokia for €25.

Seems there's 2 left in Letterkenny. Still making up my mind about getting it. I'm currently on a Vodafone smart 2. :)

Has anyone successfully unlocked a Meteor Nokia Lumia 520?
I tried unlock-your-phones.com, inputted my IMEI and they said they could unlock "We are pleased to tell you that it is possible to unlock your phone." but this morning I got an email saying they couldn't "We apologise that on this occasion we have been unable to obtain an unlock code for your phone using the imei number supplied"
I verified I entered the correct IMEI but am reluctant to go to another provider in case I get the same response.
Any advice on my next steps e.g. use one of the other providers, Cex etc. would be much appreciated.

    Regards,
    Andrew

If you get this phone make sure you don't drop it. They're nearly as fragile as iPhones.

They are not the beat phones and definitely not an alternative to an iPhone, for example my camera doesn't work in it. €50 is well worth it for the phone though.

    Beat phones? Broken camera?

On the contrary, Ive hopped mine around the place, allowed my 1 year old nephew bounce it off the floor and its perfect. Covers can be got for pittance online.....

What do you mean the camera doesn't work?

;)Probably left the plastic cover on the lens, make sure you remove it

While I dont think any smart phone is robust. There's only a plastic screen on this so it doesn't have gorilla glass or anything. Most cheap phones dont.

A lot of people seem to crack the screen taking the back off. Make sure you look up how to do it properly. I've mine in a gel cover as its a very slippy phone otherwise. I'll post the cover i got later.

Its the most robust phone I've ever had tbh. You're correct, its slippy, but for the money, I didn't bother with a cover.

Tried them last night. Paid 8.99, they were unable to provide unlock code. Still waiting for a refund.

In my case the Lumia 520 is locked to AT&T but if you go back a couple of pages, others with the Lumia 520 on Meteor have not been successful either.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,227 ✭✭✭Sam Mac

well the code they gave me was clearly false as the phone would not accept it :( still waiting on a reply for my refund. I only got around to entering it this evening.

does anyone else have a loose back cover? mine makes a noise when pressed.
anyone else notice some light bleed at the top?

Because you haven't broken something doesn't mean its robust.

That said it was a cheap phone. I'm not that worried about so I'm not that protective of it. I had it in a flip cover, but it was so bulky I switched to a gel case mainly for the grip and it provides a lip to lift the screen when its face down.
