When will the BBC show an 80's OGWT compilation?

The show ran until 1987, surely there will be a lot of good performances.

What exactly IS an Old Grey Whistle Test?

    Here you go ...
What exactly is an Old Grey Whistle Test?

It’s an old Tin Pan Alley phrase from the days of the song writing factories. They’d have song writers working nine-to-five to pump out songs. At the end of the week, they’d gather the most promising sounding songs and play them to some of the people who worked around the offices – like the doormen and the cleaners, who were nicknamed the ‘old greys’. It was said the mark of a hit single was that, having heard the song once or twice, you got the hook and could whistle along to it. So they’d play the old greys a selection of songs and the ones that they remembered – and liked – were the ones they could whistle along to. So the song had passed the ‘old grey whistle test’.

    Nice one Skid (as usual)!

Looks very intersting, for those of us who know little jazz and have always thought they should know more!

Should be a good weekend. Apart, obviously, from The Eagles. Feckin Eagles. Despera**holes, more like.

Jazz 625 had some class acts featured in its time. I think some of the shows were wiped or lost.
Saturday night on BBC4. Jazz then Wallender. Wonderful.

    Thanks again.

Fri 30 May 21:00 BBC Four

    Searching for Sugar Man

Oscar-winning documentary which tells the remarkable story of the American rock icon who never was. With a great soundtrack, moving interviews and a breathtaking twist, this is the ultimate film about the resonating power of music.

The film is directed by Malik Bendjelloul who sadly died this month.

I don't usually reply to myself, but I must say the documentary on The Eagles is top notch stuff. And I never knew Glynn Johns had such a fundamental part in their breakthrough.

I don't see it scheduled again soon, unfortunately. It's one of those shows that the BBC broadcast regularly, hopefully it will be on again soon.

Decent variety this weekend. Thanks, Skid.

Have to get that freeview yoke fixed, it just ain't the same on the laptop.

You know what, I'd love to have been around when Enter The Dragon showed up. It blew me away first time I saw it twenty-ish years later, must have been mad at the time. (That reminds me, I need a new tracksuit).
