I bought a big plumber wrench in lidl a few years ago and this does the job for oil filter removal on the car and bike.
That wouldn't work on mine, the filter is recessed, you couldn't get a wrench around it. And I had a previous owner "big hairy gibbon" tighten it way, way to tight. Was recessed on my BMW too.
Handiest thing is to spend €8 on one of these:

I ended up putting a jubilee clip on the old filter fairly tight and tapping it with a hammer to get a turn on the filter.

Was going to try that but it was very tight, wanted to avoid something like this disaster :

2 hammers and 2 angled drifts simultaneously should get a turn on that :)

Two months ago I received a blow out on the M3. My rear tyre blew but I slowed the bike down safely. The rescue truck brought me to a garage which fitted a BT021 tyre the next day. But I only recently read bad reviews about the tyre online which has had a detrimental affect on my confidence while driving it. I'm really uncertain in the wet and going around corners now.

Two weeks ago I got a slow puncture in my front tyre. I drove slowly to Cotters after it was closed but luckily they were still there. They took the bike in overnight and gave me a lift home.

So I have a new front tyre on my Fazer but it means I have a set of BT021's which seem to get awful reviews.

My insurance has lapsed on the Fazer because I am thinking of changing bike. So I'm pottering around the place on my Deauville at the moment.

Dont let the bad reviews affect your confidence riding the bike in the wet. You will get plenty of grip on them tyres just dont be going mental with extreme lean angles (should not be doing that in the wet anyway) ride away with confidence.

I actually came on to write that Mick (LookBehindYou?) is going to do my insurance assessment and to start me on my path to ROSPA or just advanced driving in general.

    That's what I done today.

Same as the army.. I noticed a set on two of our Bandits during the week, no problems (I ride).

The performance in the wet may be inferior when compared to other rival tyres that excel in the wet, but I would not be riding around fearing the bike will low side any minute because you have them tyres fitted.

Ride away and just replace them with better when the time arrive mate.

thought my bike had melted its rectifier or something - horrendous stink when driving to work this morning, that didnt go away as I traveled along (would disregard as being a background smell had it gone away)

so riding along about 2-3 mins, looking at my temps, glancing around the bike to see if I can see anything untoward etc. I'm about 10 secs away from pulling in and notice its getting pretty foggy.. hmm, turns out about 200m up the road there was a van towing an overloaded trailer (Im guessing) and its tyres were smoking like crazy :o

geez, the stink - lungs aint feeling 100% at the mo..!

waved him in, but think he was going to stop at that stage anyway

The relief when you realise it's someone elses car/van is great! Similar happened to me in the car last week

Checked my rear suspension linkages. You might say I'm a touch disappointed with the result :o

I have the new bearings, seals and a set of teflon washers to sort the lateral slop but there's a set of new bushings for the munched up originals and swingarm bearings to get now before it can all go back together. Plenty else to be getting on with though so no rush.

Gave the bike a bit of a clean and polish 2day!

Holy sh!t, that's some job, looks great, the elbows must be worn off you!

Cleaned off the rear brake pistons cause it had been dragging a bit. Then decided I should do the fronts as well because the power had been lacking lately. Out of 8 front brake pistons, only three were moving freely until I cleaned them  and one or two popped out enough during cleaning to let air in past the seals, so now it needed bleeding. No harm as the fluid has been in there a couple of years so could do with a change. Huge difference in the power and feel at the brake lever, you don't realise how bad it's become until you sort it out.

I polish it before so 1s I wash it I just go over it with quick detail spray and then give it a quick wax and give the exhaust pipe a clean then

Called in to Noel on my way back tonight as I was passing his. Have to say the pictures he put up don't do the bike justice at all ( he needs a few photography lessons) the bike in the flesh is totally spotless. He has some job down the the header pipes!! Class job.

Have it a clean today before a spin to Kildare. Picture was taken at Noel's on the trip home.

Done the pair mod so I can get it tuned.

Tightening the swingarm bearings a touch and properly torqued the rear axle. Suprised how tight its ment to be.

between the 2 I think the play I was feeling seems to be gone. Felt great anyway.

    list is getting shorter. Just

2 new s20 evo's going on next weekend
got to find a set of stick coils
    And tuned.

be right sorted for the summer

I have the Triumph custom gel seat on my Triumph Sprint and it makes a huge difference over the standard foam seat. Well worth the outlay....

New clutch cable on the Fazer. Feels lovely. No longer a 16 year old badly stretched bollix of a thing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,388 ✭✭✭corkgsxr

    More progress made.

new pair of Bridgestone s20 evo' s

the long gsxr coils work but you have to face the coils forward so they dont hit the airbox and and trim back some of the shrinkwrap so you have enough length for the connectors.

Went for a quick spin. Everything feels great. Last thing now is get it tuned. But that wont be done untill after tt.

Belts done, air filter done, reg/rec replaced, brake and clutch fluid done (not by me btw). I had the day off and drove mine today. Great weather today.
If anyone knows the location, they get a medal:
