Sakho is not good enough imo.

I bet our goals conceded with Agger/Skrtel combo is significantly better than when Sakho plays.

What we would have given to have Borini in place of Moses on the bench tonight..

I feel for Suarez, clearly heartbroken. To be honest, I was hoping Rodgers would sub him instead of Danny. I think one of the reasons we didn't win tonight and failed to break down Chelsea is that Suarez is simply running on fumes at this stage. Have we given him a break since January?

I know defense is to blame, but Suarez missed a couple of chances tonight that he would normally put away with ease.

Playing every 7 days, he should be fine. Maybe a couple of hooks on 60mins if you were home and hosed but you're best players need to be hitting 50 games a season in all comps, little bit of player management at certain junctures and they should be good to go for that length.

If he was to fall in going over the Wandsworth bridge we'd be happy enough really.

Its a collective win lose or draw, and tonight they all played their part in the concessions mainly though lack of clear thinking and application of the games basic tenants - don't lose the ball cheaply, don't force the issue, don't go looking for what you don't need, keep your shape, push up and clear the bloody ball!

What did Carragher say earlier. Sakho and Skrtel played 17 times and 1 clean sheet, something mad like that.

I like Sakho but you definately need a calm ball player in beside him.

I have been beating that drum regarding skrtel/sakho partnership since day one, they are both good individually but as a partnership they just don't work

Yep, Skrtel has been our best central defender all season. (apart from all the shirt pulling!!) Chipping in with some important goals as well. He got double teamed tonight for that third goal, didnt know to stick or twist and if yer gonna go for the ball ya gotta go and win it. Johnson should be covering the inside anyway. He can see gayle in front of him running off Murray. As a defender ya gotta be thinking the worst is gonna happen every time. Johnson should be thinking "if murray gets a flick on here Gayle is through on goal" and cover it. He never recognises danger until its too late.
Turning his arse for the first goal as well and not blocking the shot. Been like that all his career. This is the title you're meant to be going for.. FFS take it full on and throw your body in front of the thing.

Someone needs to sit down with Mingolet, Skrtel and Sahko and explain to them that sitting back in the 6 yard box when the opposing team is on the half way line is not good defending.

The stats may well bare that out but Sakho won every ball he challenged for and hardly misplaced a pass all game , where he has likely fallen down this year is communication(his lack of english) and familiarity(knowing your fellow defenders predilections in any given situation and compensating) not a lack of talent. He will get better and possibly become that leader at the back we so badly need.

    But isn't that basic stuff?

How can they not know this?

    Baffling and frustrating.

I'm not a fan of Sakho myself but it's only his first season so I wouldn't write him off just yet and as much as I like Agger and Skrtel, I think its more the system that shows off their frailties.

Thats not a dig at Rodgers but Its the fact that our fullbacks play so far up the pitch, that our CB's are going to come under a lot more pressure.

Hopefully we can get the balance right for next season.

Still can't believe we are in with a 0.000000001% chance of winning the league after finishing in 7th.

Neither were hendo or allen but both have come on leaps and bounds in recent times so i certainly wouldnt be writing off sakho yet.

Kompany wasn't amazing in his first season in England. Plenty of players aren't.

Sakho has a massive future at this club, imo.

Which is why you have to ask the question if the SAS partnership at the back have kept one clean sheet in 17 why did Rodgers break up the SAA partnership ?

Agger was injured and despite conceding goals in the games he played while agger was out sakho played well imo, so he kept his place. Hes not everyones cup of tea as a defender but its his first season here and still probably doesn't know much english so communication will be sparce. Glen johnson is a much bigger issue in defence.

Well yeah, that was devastating. Ripped my heart out, etc. But that's what being a sports fan is. Things in your life that have the potential or capacity to bring great joy will always be capable of subjecting you to merciless pain.

We will kick off the final game of the league season with an outside chance of winning the league. I'd have snapped your hand off for that at the start of the season - we finished 7th last year.

Of course I desperately wanted a different outcome from the past two games but that truly is life. Sport remains the most magical, dramatic and exhilarating thing there is in this world.

Whatever about the football, Loyds re-emergence from Liverpool Superthread pariah to all round hero has been nothing short of miraculous this season.

Another surprising turn of events in the Superthread.

Although nothing will ever beat the week when it turned out that Mr.Alan was a mildly succesful musician and played on the Late Late...which was somewhat tempered by Lord Trollington failing to get his pr!ck out at the GPO.

I dont even come on to this forum for the footy talk, it's the Games of Thrones-esque dramatic storylines i'm here for.

Up and down and around we go on the rollercoaster that is the Liverpool Superthread, where the football is merely a sideshow.
