I call the overtaking lane 'no mans land' when I'm in the jobs truck. You go to overtake, hit 90 kmh, and the wh0re speeds up along with everyone behind him so you actually get stuck in the overtaking lane with a tailback behind you.

    B@stards!

It's worth noting that it's illegal for trucks to use the outer lanes on a multi-lane road.

Yeah well it's probably illegal too for cars to speed up as you are overtaking.

Try driving from Dublin to Cavan or Cork or anywhere stuck behind some half asleep coffin dodging mouth breather who won't go over 60 kmh. You wouldn't be long putting the indicator on and passing them out.

    Tailgating.

    High Beams.

    Incorrect lane usage.

Cars with missing mirrors or folded mirrors.

Cars on a motorway slip road moving straight into right hand lanes.

When a car overtakes on motorway and pulls back in 10 feet in front of you in your 2-4 second safe zone.

Tossers who overtake you and then drive slower than you were in the first place.

Everything posted to date bugs me.

My irrational pet hate is drivers who have to have animated conversations with their passengers. I find them incredibly distracting when I'm driving behind them especially when they feel the need to turn the head to the passenger. Christ on a bike, they're a foot away from you, they can hear you!!!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 508 ✭✭✭smaoifs

Idiots who leave their indicators on after completing a turn.
Idiots indicating right when going straight on.
Idiots who don't know how to turn off their back wiper and drive around on the driest of days with the back wiper going.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 623 ✭✭✭Fiolina

Cap-wearing oul fellas are the worst slow feckers to be stuck behind. Also people who come to a complete halt when they're approaching a speed bump as if they're contemplating conquering Mount Everest.

Apart from all of the above, one that really annoys me is the 60kmh brigade

    60 in an 50 zone
    60 in an 60 zone
60 in an 80, and so on, my uncle is one of these, and he got points for doing 60 in a 50 zone once, complained about it and said how could i be speeding i was going a safe speed!

This is a common misconception. Where the limit is 80km or less they CAN use the overtaking lane. Where the speed is greater than 80kmph they are not allowed to use the outer lane.

For example on a 2 lane dual carridge way with a 100kmph speed limit trucks must use the lane on the left.
On a 3 lane road 100kmph motorway they can use lanes 1 and 2 but not lane 3.

I've also noticed when I drive the smaller car(MX5) I get a lot more people tailgating me. Even at lights they creep up to within centimetres of your bumper, and for what?
    They're just jealous :D

People who pull away slowly from traffic lights. So selfish!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,061 ✭✭✭keith16

People at the top of the queue at a red light basically asleep. Happens most frequently on lights that aren't green for long and that have a long queue.

Light finally goes green and the idiot at the top of the queue is dozing / reading the metro / on the phone, anything but paying attention to the lights.

I often wonder is it because they try to judge you're speed first then think it's safe to pull out if it's deemed that you're not going like a speed demon, but still keep at a slow speed once pulled out forcing you to start braking.

I often get this while cycling downhill. I can be doing 40kmh or so downhill, they will see me fast approaching, look me right in the eye then at the last second think "oh it's only a bicycle" and pull right out in front of me. Then the slow driving and I end up over taking them on a bike.

My pet hate is pretty simple - anyone who doesn't give driving the due care and attention it requires. This includes but is not limited to the below. In fact, when you think about it, people who do the following are either dim/unobservant or else "don't care" people.

    - Foglights on when not required
    - Failure to indicate
    - Failure to observe proper lane discipline
    - Failure to make good progress (I don't mind people who want to take it handy, but some people are glacial)
    - Poor parking (Why is it so hard for some people to go between two lines)
    - Using handicapped spaces (Grow up, you're not that important)
    - Not stopping at the correct lines in traffic
    - Not understanding what the green arrows at traffic lights mean
    etc…

I love driving - I actually find it quite relaxing, even with the amount of numpties on the road. I just make sure to work my way carefully and quickly around them.

Rear fog lights when it's not foggy

I'm not even talking about dual carriageways. I'm talking about overtaking on normal, single carriageway roads.

Happened again to me about an hour ago. Guy on a 100kph road doing 80kph. Put the boot down the second he saw me overtaking. Then tail gated me for about 4 miles.

    I can't understand this logic.

people who crawl around corners and hammer it on the straights. also, it is shocking how many people haven't a fcuking clue how to use a roundabout correctly.

I find these threads funny; every person that's posted has no doubt performed one of these pet hates before, even just once, which is all it takes for another person to be inconvenienced by it and then complain about it.

And so the endless circle of humans being humans continues.

People stopping at a roundabout, when they clearly see for the past quarter of a mile that there's nothing coming.

Some roundabouts have stop signs believe it or not and they are there for a reason.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,498 ✭✭✭obezyana

People who don't use indicators and people who cross lanes on roundabouts as if your not going driving in the lane at all.

Never seen a stop sign on a roundabout.

I'm sorry but that absolutely defeats the purpose of a roundabout.
I can grudgingly accept traffic lights on some roundabouts, but stop signs are taking the piss.

Not speeding up to motorway speed on a slip road going on to a motorway.
Slowing down on the motorway because you are coming up to a sliproad that your turning onto.
Fog lights on with no fog around.
Full headlights with either oncoming traffic or if you are following traffic.
Slow drivers holding up a queue of people.
Unmatched number plates on a car and trailer.
Racing sulkies on the motorway(poor horses).
    No lights on at dusk.
Only side lights on at dusk.
White flashing strobes on non emergency vehicles.
Speed vans and speed cameras(I don't have an issue with AGS doing these checks, I do have a problem with a private company being contracted to enforce any law in Ireland).
Not using indicators appropriately(they are meant to indicate your actions!!!).
The 300 meter long 100kmph stretch on the cork dublin motorway(no reason for it at all, not a dangerous bit of road).
    L plates on the motorway.
Forcing other drivers to slow down because you pulled out in front of them.
Driving the wrong way around a roundabout.
Driving the wrong way up the motorway.
Not having the correct change ready when you pull up to a toll bridge.
    Boy racer exhausts.
    Boy racer cars.
    Boy racers in general.
People wearing a hood while driving(WHY!!?).
Not looking carefully before changing lanes.
Expecting you have the right of way because you are in a bus(all bus drivers!).
Passing out a vehicle then slowing down in front of them.
    Nürburgring stickers on a micra.
    Nissan Micra drivers.
    Toyota Yaris drivers.
Any drivers who cannot competently drive(basic requirements: ability to park, drive in straight lines, navigate turns without crossing the dividing line, use of indicators, use of lights, use of brakes, and finally observation).
Pulling into a petrol station, filling up, then leaving your car at the pump to pay for your fuel while there is a queue(most inconsiderate thing ever!).
Driving more than 10k under the limit with a queue of traffic following, just pull in!
Pulling into the hard shoulder and passing traffic just to get a few places ahead in the queue.
People not using bus lanes after they are out of hours.
People thinking they are driving a bus while driving a civic.
    Bad parking.
Parking in handicapped zones(even if your just popping into the shop for a minute!).
Stopping in the middle of the road to drop off/pick up your kid from school.
    Tailgating.
    DUI.
Swerving to avoid.... nothing at all.

And last but definitely not least:
    POTHOLES!!!!!!

Never forget, the end goal is zero firearms of any type.

S.I. No. 187/1972 - Firearms (Temporary Custody) Order - Firearms seized

S.I. No. 21/2008 - Firearms (Restricted Firearms and Ammunition) Order 2008 - Firearm types restricted

Criminal Justice (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2009 - Firearms banned & grandfathered

S.I. No. 420/2019 - Magazine ban, ammo storage & transport restricted

Criminal Justice (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2023 - 2023 Firearm Ban (retroactive to 8 years prior)

Lane hoggers (especially those who hog the outside lane below the speed limit).

Those who refer to the outside lane as the fast lane.

    Bad / no indicating.

    Joining the motorway too slowly.

Noisy exhaust cars and the dopes who rev up and speed through a town with a 50090923 Decibel Engine.
