A little convoy of classics, ten in total, entering Kenmare today. See how many you can identify. I don't know, except for the Volvo!

    No. 2 & 3 are Morris Minors.

I think it depends on you're point of view but I'll always say that I restored my fulvia whilst also fitting hf body styling.

'tis yours to do with as you wish but if you sell it as a totally 'restored' Fulvia then where would that leave you legally?

There are a few old Peugeots, a Hillman, Morris Minors and a Ford 100E and a Singer I think

Legally? I don't think that would come into it, in my opinion and the opinion others it is restored. Be a very foolish man to try to make a court case of it.

A mate here just got himself a new toy!

And no more jokes about it having an "original Irish" reg! :D

The car was supplied new from a Ford dealer here in Sweden in '66.

It's had fresh paint a few years ago but in the original factory colour, you could eat your dinner off the engine bay. Beautiful interior too and American racing alloys.

I agree. That Escort looks great but it isnt a resto. Its a modified resto and I agree that in most cases modified restos get a lot more money spend on them, most likely because the end result is someone's dream. What Im trying to point out is that a restoration is to bring something back to its original condition. That is the definition - technical and legal. I dont make up the definitions but I did take the time to check them out. That Escort, is not in its original condition, ie, as it left the factory - its a lovely recreation of a different model of Mk1 Escort.

The other point that Im trying to make is that the word 'restoration' is prostituted about on the DoneDeals of this world on cars that are no more restored than the man on the moon. You know the ones Im talking about. Gobs of filler and a paint job is not a restoration!

Are we a bit clearer now?

Correct but they aren't restorations either

In the Day you could buy an RS 1600 that looked just like that one from the showroom of a FORD RS Dealer......It Did'nt leave the factory like that but ford advertised the arches as an optional extra fitted by RS Dealers.

I'm going to be very nit-picky but you could order your RS from Rallye Sport Ford Dealers with arches, roll cage, "alternative" gear ratios, sump guards etc. If you ordered a RS1600 it probably came straight from the Ford AVO factory with all the extras factory fitted.

AVO was set up to build all the homologation specials and "sporty" Fords as the main plants didn't want low volume models messing up the production schedules. It also did special orders so if you wanted you could have practically a full RS rally car factory built on the production line. AVO was shut (economic downturn) when the mk2 came out so all extras fitted to mk2 RS's were RS dealer fitted (Well, there were 6 mk2 RS2000 that were factory fittted with all the X-Pack extras as press demo cars)

The first two were in Kenmare a few days ago. I'm not sure if the third qualifies as classic, but it's in good nick and is the more desirable 1.8SLX. It was just off Eccles St in Dublin last week.

From today, all around Clontarf/Harmonstown. Really a lot of old stuff about the place, which is nice to see.

A few in Kerry. The corsair in kenmare yesterday, and the esso trucks are a regular feature at the Esso garage in Rathmore. I was lucky enough to be passing when they were out on Friday.

Both the Polo and Golf never seem to move. Well, the golf was gone for a few weeks earlier in the year, but the Polo certainly hasn't moved at all. The Minor is owned by an old chap, I actually saw this last year around August around the corner from where I took this, but it was gone within seconds and I never got a proper look at it, I've been on the lookout since. The Familia might not be classic in the sense, but they're quite rare (where I'm from anyway) plus it never seems to move from this spot.
