I went to school in the sixties and seventies, if we fell foul off a teacher due to our misbehaviour then not only did we get the tawse!..we also got severely reprimanded when our parents found out..double whammy!!

We had respect enough for our teachers back then because we knew our place which wasnt a bad thing looking back, however nowadays is a different kettle of fish, my daughter is involved in teaching and some of the stories I hear about police attending to incidents on a daily basis, atrocious behaviour both from the pupils and their parents when they turn up to defend wee johnnie or mary are truly disturbing!!

The respect culture between young people and their elders is crumbling, kids nowadays shout about their rights when challenged on anti social behaviour..even the police are practically powerless to deal with them..society has created a monster and that poor lady fell foul of it!!!

    Woooossssshhhhhh

That was the sound of the previous 4 pages going over your head. :D

Don't disagree with anything you said however it doesn't seem to apply to this case.

So again, what do you propose to do with these people? A hug, a pat on their shoulders and a prize because they are "victims"? I guess the real victims, those laying six feed under now, were just "unfortunate casualties" necessary for some nutter's "mental health" struggles.

"Snapping" is no justification at all, murder is murder - and it should make no difference who commits it. There might be mitigating factors, sure enough, but generic "mental illness" shouldn't be one: there are countless people affected by very deep ailments, yet only an handful of them do commit murder. It's not like somebody can't be an assh0le just because he/she has some trouble.

Your attitude says it all really, referring to people as nutters and putting mental health in quotation marks as if you think it's made up or something.

The fact you think someone with severe mental health issues who may not have a proper grasp of reality snapping and a pre-planned murder are exactly the same thing also shows what shallow, black and white thinking you possess.

I'm not for one moment suggesting the kid should be allowed to walk free. I'm saying it looks very much like he needs psychological help in a secure unit. And suggesting that if perhaps mental health care in the UK were better, this sort of thing (which is actually quite common) wouldn't be quite so common.
