Im doing a project for a large module and someone borrowed one of the texts needed form short loans in the library, tore out the relevant chapter and handed back the book.

UL could be in bother over this as no one in the building knew CPR

Didn't seem that busy in there at 1 pm. Room I am in, which I will not disclose the whereabouts of, has been quiet enough all day. ;)

Way less distractions than the library as well, be that noise or the female kind. :(

That because its the middle of the day. People just go to the library to drop off books in the morning and spend the rest of the day hanging out with friends.

You might want to check your facts before making such statements.

    Ha things never change so.

This was the case 10 years ago!!

That was the doctor in the medical center. I did hear that about car but that's a lesson learned and we don't know if it would have made a difference. A similar thing happened when i was in school and afterwards his parents told us that nothing anyone could have done would have saved him

The SAA have posted up a notice saying that no belongings can be brought into the exam centre (obviously) but no belongings can be left outside either and one guy made the point that for people who travel in they have no where to put their stuff which would be my case too.
The last two years I remember we were allowed to leave our stuff outside or to but our phone beside us on the floor during the exam. Hopefully the individual supervisors will just allow people to do that.

    They wont. New Rules.

How are they going to enforce that? I'm assuming this means school bags and stuff too? What about coats etc?

So wait it could be pissing rain, I come in with my rainjacket and get told I can't leave my stuff outside the exam room?

I remember one year I got in trouble for taking my hoodie off because I was too warm, they were complaining "all jackets have to be left outside".

Have they hired all those useless old wans to invigilate again? Every year they're there and just wrecking heads!

The head wan said that people can leave their jackets on but not put it on the back of the chair.

Perhaps Student Union will have a place for students to store their belongings. I don't know

They'll probably check the keyring for notes

Can't bring a phone or a wallet in to the centre or leave it outside either. I commute to college so basically it means those like me will have to go to UL with no phone, wallet, bag as there would be nowhere to leave it. I'm hoping this is some sort of mistake or bizarre miscommunication.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,812 ✭✭✭Precious flower

I just don't understand why they can't just leave the stuff at the back of the rooms. No one is going to magically transport themselves from their desk to their bag without anyone seeing. I travel in, so I'll have to bring my purse, some pens, my Id, and I'd like to be able to bring a copy book in to revise my stuff as I usually head well ahead of time just in case. I'm hardly going to carry all that in my arms so I'll need to bring a bag. Ugh so stupid!

I don't think SAA thought this out intelligently. We only found out this week that we were invigilating.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 782 ✭✭✭Reiver

Paddy said on the ULSU facebook page that he's in discussion with people over it so hopefully this cretinous idea will get thrown out the window.

Are all the crazy old invigilators back this year? One of ours last semester just walked out of the room when we were down in Schuman, left us unattended for like 5 mins!

It that what's it's called? I just thought they were referred to as supervisors!:o Cool name!:D
Oh, when has the SAA been known to think out anything intelligently?:P

I thought we got a similar email to this for the exams last semester, no? I remember reading something stupid like this and just brought my stuff anyway. I highly doubt they could enforce it.

Last year they just let us put our stuff at the back of the room, we seems to make the most sense.

I know. I mean, the same email was sent out last semester. We had all of our stuff at the back or front of the room and had our phones on the floor face down. This new thing is idiotic and I don't get the reason behind it.

This is the email from last semester:

    "EXAM NOTICE

To All Students attending Exam Centres
    · Exam Centre Rules & Regulations
o NO personal belongings allowed in exam rooms, including phones, laptops, bags, notes etc.
o THERE IS NO facility for leaving these items outside the exam room. Any personnel items left outside Exam Centre are left at owners risk
o BE WARNED in advance DO NOT bring your personnel belongings to exams
o DO FOLLOW exam centre rules & regulations
o DO NOT become a victim of opportunist thief"

Is this not the same as the one we got this semester? How is the situation different? I feel like I might be missing something since everyone seems to be getting really worked up.

Wonder if we'll get frisked now... They try and find something wrong with what you have.. One woman every year never fails to rile me..
Came in last semester everything in my hands, 2 pens, 2 pencils, eraser, pencil sharpener, calculator, ruler and student card... Asked me why I had so much, said just in case one breaks. She said 'What, all of them?!' Glowered at me and told me to move to bottom of row. Little things but they anger me before a test.. Maths test and I used everything bar spare pen.. Broke two pencils and had to resharpen them both.. Only ever see her in EGO though, but there seems to be one like her in every hall. Like a traffic warden when they're ticketing a car. Nothing is above them.

Get the feeling though they'll stick to it this time round though.

Have to say, even though these exams don't affect me (), quite impressed with the SU for coming up with alternatives so quickly. Having a ticketed luggage place mightn't be great, but it's better than these new rules. Hopefully, it'll be overturned though...

    They say

Belongings will not be allowed to be brought in to centres or allowed to be left outside centres

This year, which is quite different.
