Were those frozen guys in the first series white walkers too? They didn't seem to act one bit like these guys, just basically snow zombies.

There are wights, which are reanimated corpses and white walkers who create them. The guys who took the baby are white walkers.

When his cat jumped on to the bed all I could think was wow Nice Pussy .............
There must have been King's landing all over the bedclothes.

    +1

    For reference;

The lad Jon kills in S1 when defending Jeor Mormont is a wight, he burns him to death. Mormont gives him the sword Jon has with the wolf's head in return.

Wonder how they do that. Must be something we haven't seen yet (as Bishop would say).

Slow enough episode again. Not as bad as last week but a lot of nothingness all the same.

Your wan is going through these slave cities like a hot knife through butter.

Am I the only one who seems some kind of a correlation between the Walkers lair and the hole the wolf got trapped in. It could be possible they live under the ice...in some kind of an underworld, where they have been 'asleep' for the last 100 or so years and then they will rise fully when winter comes.

Just for reference for whoever was saying we saw the Walkers marching on the wall, we did not. We saw them and the wights attack the fists of the first men, which is a fair bit away from the wall.

How can you have a character as dull as Bran in the same hour as ice cowboys who convert babies to Mr Freezes? Hoping Hordor goes mental and eats all that gang of dullards.

did he not also cut off Jaime's hand too. I couldn't place him while watching the episode so at least makes more sense now. Thanks.

Thought it was good enough episode- progressed most of the plots and revealed more about the conspiracy and white walkers so definitely not a filler episode for me.

I could see the awkwardness in the Margaery and young king's bedroom scene- must have been hard for the young actor playing that scene!

id say something was hard alright

I really wish there was more progression with the Danaerys stuff. It is just so dull to watch. We get it - she's a "Liberator". Can something new come of that storyline now please?

Loved the scene with Margery and Tommen. The wee lad didn't know what to be doing with himself!

Also, so Oleanna was behind the poisoning? My feckin' housemate who has read the books telling me I was all wrong for thinking the Tyrells were behind it!

I have a feeling Bran's power could become quite potent and that storyline could potentially get more interesting the more he learns how to utilize that power, but they'd want to hurry up with it. That group do a fierce amount of fcuking around without making much progress.

Interested to see what's going to happen with Jamie once Tyrion's trial starts. Is he going to be Tyrion's only supporter?

I assume Summer can't be dead or Bran would have had some way of knowing?

Also confused about the whole Wight/Walker thing. Is it the case that the Walkers 'magic' aura in the North is making the corpses reanimate as Wights? And if so do the Walkers control the Wights?

Or are they separate creatures completely?

Good episode all in all, looks like some storylines are going to come together finally, e.g. Jon and Bran.

No idea about how they revive or anything, Wildlings always burn their dead as a precaution so it could very well be a case of it just happening. It's safe to say the walkers control the wights though going by that final shot from Season 2. Also there was the whole assassination attempt on Jeor Mormont where the wight stayed "dead" until it was inside Castle Black.

I'm still confused as to how the poison got from the necklace into Joffrey's cup?? Anyone care to explain it?

I didn't even notice Littlefinger's accent. I think he's great. I'm right, your all wrong :pac:

Gillen's acting is the worst thing about this, and every other series he's been in. I don't understand how he's not on the dole. Like a plank he is. Stiff Littlefinger.

I disagree. He's been wonderfully devious. That whole Chaos is a Ladder scene with Varys last season was great.

    Great episode again.

I'm not getting the hate for the Danaery's storyline. She's is gradually taking over an entire realm (it's a realm isn't it?), building an army and now, crucifying the masters. I quite enjoyed the stealth mission in to the slave quarters and watching the slaves struggle to fight for themselves. It all goes to show what a powerful icon Danaery's is becoming. I'm happy with how her character is progressing. That said, I think this should be it as far as freeing cities goes unless they are going to show something different.

I found myself really warming to Jamie again. Himself and Tyrion are great on screen together and there were lots of nice nods to events in previous seasons here. Those scenes when Brienne were awesome. I don't think he realised he loved her until that moment she was leaving. Great scene. And Pod!! Looking forward to the adventures of Brienne and Pod.

The Bran storyline is the weak one for me. Glad they got caught.... even if it was by those evil rapists. Hopefully Jon won't be far behind and we'll get some nice progression on the "north of the wall" plot. I suspect, Jon will abandon Castle Black to help Bran on his bigger quest.... after sussing out Locke and putting a sword through him.

Speaking of "north of the wall". White Walkers! Yay! So, there seems to be two classes of them. There's the ones we've seen already. Old and a bit haggard looking and now, we've seen a second type youthful, more "high born". I imagine they are the ones running the whole show. The two don't seem to interact given the scene we saw at the end. Very interesting insight anyway. Hope it doesn't take another season before we see any more of them :)

He has great lines and a great character to play.
    He's still crap.

I can only assume the book describes this very differently. That sewer the lads break in through is ridiculous. You could drive a cart up it and this a a city with 100 foot wall that supposed to be under siege.
And why didn't one of the 100,000s of slaves in the city notice these secret entrances before?

Decent episode but I do feel the showrunners could do with focusing on three storylines per week rather than 5-10 mins per area/ story. Even if they focused on the (currently) less-interesting stories and developed them. I'd happily sit and watch an hour of the Daenerys storyline because I'd know it wouldn't just be an hour of slave emancipation.

As it currently stands it's a show where when it gets to a weak storyline I'm like 'oh come on how long is this part gonna play out for?' There's no other show I've seen where I feel like every minute has to count for something - weakest part of this episode by far was the Grey Worm and Missandei romance angle. Like I could give a shit about that?

The worst side story by far was last seasons Pod's and his big rod. Levity for the sake of levity...

I know the Stark's are all congenitally thick, but did Snow really buy that Bolton guy's story about being a poor poacher when he could kick a supposedly fairly well trained watchman's ass like that? Did I miss something about how he got into watch? He just turns up and says "I'm a bad man, let me in"?

Do the Watch ever reject anyone who wants to join? I mean, didn't they say that rapists and murderers and criminals join the Watch as an alternative to other punishment?

I did think it was a bit funny though when Bolton's lad said he joined the Watch to avoid getting his hand cut off, that's when it clicked to me who he was :pac:

I think he's actually so bad that he's good, if you know what I mean. He is trying so hard to act devious and sneaky that it's gone full circle past being crap and straight back round to being good! TBH any scene with him and Varys/Tyrion lit up the show and I certainly hope there is more of that in store. It's not his fault he's stuck with dull as dishwater Sansa.

They never turn anyone away and he didn't beat up another Watchman (who aren't all well trained btw) the guy he beat up was another new recruit. Also, there's just been a war where many commoners had to take up arms and they live in a very dangerous place besides, don't think it's that out of the ordinary for someone to be handy with a sword.

Oh, one thing I forgot to mention. Screw you showrunners! That "rape em till their dead" scene in the camp with women being brutally raped all around as that evil fcuker drank out of a skull was the final straw for my wife. She has now sworn off the show. Not that I blame her, it was a vile scene, probably as bad as anything shown before. Really wish the showrunners would stop trying to outdo themselves. We get it, Westeros is full of evil and danger, particularly for women. You don't have to shove it so violently in our faces.

I just thought that new recruits usually turned up with an escort or something, or a letter saying their sentence was commuted. Hard to imagine they just let criminals go the 1000 miles to the wall by themselves because they say scout's honour I'll go!

  • Administrators, Computer Games Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 32,171 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭Mickeroo

It never showed the recruits arriving, would be unlikely a whole bunch would turn up out of the blue together. I reckon Locke joined up with a convoy headed for the wall like the one Yoren was leading in season 2.

Yeah, that episode could nearly have done with a trigger warning, it was so over the top with the rape stuff. Like, was it really necessary to have a man visibly brutally raping a woman in the background while yer man is going on about "raping them til they're dead"? I mean, we get it. They're rapists. It doesn't need to be so heavy handed. Can't help but feel like some of that stuff is included deliberately by HBO just to fill their nudity quota and to be provocative. The objectifaction of women on the show continues to irk me.

In fairness, watching it in real time on Sky Atlantic, they did give a warning before it returned to that scene from the ad break. It did seem particularly more graphic both in terms of language and imagery than usual and probably did the right thing issuing a fore-warning.

what is also very sad (and true) these days is, that there is lots of people who enjoy seeing misery. maybe not to such an extend but still...like ppl who would stop to watch a car accident etc...
