Speedtest result : 38.36Mbps down, 9.31 Mbps up, ping 9MS (Drogheda to Dundalk)
Router stats, as shown on 192.168.1.254 :

We're paying ~45 euro a month for 70Mb/s, we get 40. I don't know how to read any of the router stats in relation to what we're paying/what we should be getting; is it good? Average?

Smemon, based on your stats it absolutely looks like you should be able to sync higher in the future. Your line attenuation isn't very high which is good, and your downstream snr is great. Generally you can trade snr for more speed. But lots of lines mine included so far can't be boosted in speed for some as yet unexplained reason.

AlanS181824, you are definitely getting the most from your line! I've some better stats than you and can't sync above 70m/bit!

100Mbit is as high as they will allow you sync as far as I know. You have a tasty line there. Nice.

My house was built in 2005 so maybe that has something, as the engineer said to me today that the older houses tend to have different wiring, I'm probably not phrasing that right but the engineer took about 10 minutes all in whereas he spent around 2 hours at an old house.

Outside my front door is the Eircom junction box. Coming from it, into my home is two twisted bell wire type cable. This was installed by old Eircom.(1975). Houses connected later have a completed different wiring.

So presume you have the newer wiring giving less noise, better insulated.

Neighbours around are getting all different speed even from the same ISP.

In my area UPC comes in top position, Eircom and then Vodafone. Sky in the final position.

30 houses.

Any way enjoy your newer Speeds.

You have very similar stats to mine. I can have max 50 Mb.
I checked with eircom wholseale and vectoring is not enabled yet on my cabinet. AFAIK only one active cabinet in my town does not have vectoring enabled - it is mine

BTW
Every second Friday (last Friday) eircom gateway is updated with list new cabinet (and cabinet with vectoring enabled).

Ya. You're syncing at the max available profile speed. That's all that matters. Don't keep rebooting your box of the line management software will think you are having disconnects and could reduce your sync speed.

Oh right, I didn't know that.
The modem has what only can be described as a Coffee smell, it's weird.
I think it's just the plastic heating up because of use.

I haven't been tempted to re-boot the F1000 in case I caused a drop in attainables. I've noticed over the past couple of days that the latest rate adaptive profile is syncing between the initial 97.518/20.478 on 22/04/14, down to 95.805/19.48, yesterday and back up to 98.314/19.48 tonight. Small but expected movements. Initial SNR was 10.4/9.9 and it's now 11/11.1 - Attainables started at 109.22/22.877 went down to 100.596/22.465, and are now 103.028/22.518.
G.inp is implemented all right but I wonder if G.Vector has actually kicked in or is it a case of one or the other but not both.

I rang Vodafone yesterday, but was told, after being put on hold for a while, that my line would not be suitable for any speed increase and to try again in a month's time when I should be able to get more...

With my recent change in SNR and lower ping, I was optomistic that Vectoring was enabled, but maybe not.

I think that G.inp and G.Vector are planned to be rolled out together to all cabinets eventually. There appears to be a delay in the vectoring rollout to some cabinets which I don't know anything about. G.inp seems to make the attainables a little funny. I wouldn't worry too much about them.

That seems to be a gradual decrease alright.
I rebooted the Modem one more time as I wanted to remove my Hard Drive from it and I don't know if it's hot swappable.
Attainable went back to 116Mb with the actual rate staying the same.
I'll leave it like that now.

I have a question regarding DLNA on the Vodafone Modem.

I know it's offtopic but there seems to be quite a few Vodafone customers on here that might be able to help.

I plugged in my portable harddrive into the modem and pointed towards the harddrive under DLNA on the Vodafone Modem.

On Windows 8 it shows up under Network as Huawei Home Media Server: or something to that extent but when I click on it nothing shows up and it says the folder is empty.

However when I use Windows Media Player it shows up and the files play grand.

Am I doing something wrong?

Thats normal, thats just how Microsoft coded things. They dont have a "default program" as they dont have an extension and explorer cant interpret DLNA shares.

If you want VLC can interpret them like WMP.

I tried opening a Network Stream on VLC but when I click play it crashes.

As previous poster said, you would be better to leave your modem connected, powered up and not reboot it for a number of days so that the network management software doesn't think your line is having stability issues. I see you're already trying to push your speeds over the 100Mb/s

As regards DLNA etc. my view would be to leave the modem to do its basic tasks of demodulating the VDSL signal and handling the routing tasks and providing wi-fi coverage. I found the previous Vodfone Huawei ADSL modem to be completely crap at everything (including being a modem :rolleyes:) so I binned it. I am actually surprised at how stable the VDSL model has been, though, although it struggles at times with wi-fi speeds when pushed.

The box is built down to a price point and it's unlikely to function well as a print server/media server etc.

Haha yeah, it's been an absolutely massive increase for me and I've been enjoying it!
I connected 1TB harddrive to it and FTP works grand and so does DLNA to an extent.
I guess if I want proper DLNA features I'll have to invest in a NAS.
