I used to always have a pint of milk with my dinner until my Dad was over one day for lunch and said "that's why your fat" For some reason its one of the few things he's said to me that I've paid attention to .Dont know if he's right though.

If you're eating anything that includes salty chips, there is literally nothing nicer than a pint of milk with a couple of ice cubes in it.
My mates all think it's pretty bizarre, as they tend to view meal times as another excuse to get a couple of beers in :D Way I see it, there's plenty of time for booze afterwards ;)

I was having a curry with some people a few months back, and when one of my mates asked for a glass of milk the waiter literally said "What's wrong with you?"

Can't remember the last time I had a glass of milk! My ex used to drink gallons of it rank..Can't stand the taste! And tea and coffee weird I know...

I don't know why but there's something almost sinister about a grown man drinking a glass of milk...like the Jew hunter in "Inglorius Basterds" or the milk bar in "A Clockwork Orange".

There's a purity and a sense of innocence associated with milk - I guess that might be why I think adults look strange drinking it...like seeing a man dressed up like a child; there's just something odd about it...

Aaaaaaand that's my stoned ****e talk quota for the month gone in one

It has the second best milk. Irish milk is great but Jersey milk is divine. I would drink it by the gallon.

Plenty of Jersey milk in Ireland. With my dairy farmer hat on keep up the good work ah boardies. Glad to hear a good number of ye appreciate the effort.

If I could link the Anchorman picture of 'milk was a bad choice' I would but I can't...I believe Ron Burgandy not you!

Actually I find milk does wonders for a hangover. Its much better at rehydration than its given credit for.

Did you got you go to coleslaw in Bejing or what? Bejingers don't be used to the cow juice. Thats the break in your flitter.

I can't think of anything more disgusting than washing down a mouthful of chips with some milk sorry.

    Ew.

Drinking a pint of liquid produced by the mammary glands of a cow, necessary to feed and provide vital nutrients to young calves, with your dinner, is rather unusual. But in my opinion, it's no more unusual than eating the meat of a cow for your dinner, along with a pint of water.

A pint (or 3) of milk with your dinner is class. Usually get a strange look if I'm out and order it from a non native though. Too much can leave me feeling a bit bloated though.

Always seemed to be a GAA thing moreso than a culchie thing.

The only people I ever saw drinking milk with their meals were the same people who always had a hurl sticking out of their bag or who always had to leg it to football practice at 5 o'clock.

Nutritionally it's a bit insane unless you do quite a bit of training. There are more calories in a pint of milk than a pint of coke. It's nutritionally more complete, but if you drink milk by the pallet, you're as likely to become a fatty as if you drink a 2L of coke every day.

I would never have seen a glass of milk as unusual but I'm surprised still by how many of you are at it. I don't know if I'd drink a whole pint in one go though.

Didn't we all get milk for lunch in primary school? Maybe the habit stems from that. And also, being a dairy country, it is cheap, plentiful and nutritious. And also perishable, so you may as well not waste it.

The only time I order milk is when I'm suffering from bad heart burn!

I don't think the milk in primary school was free :)
As a nutrition source, it's actually quite hard to beat full fat milk. It's got a lot of key nutrients. So as a food in Ireland, access to milk was probably key growing up because it's so cheap.
The current anti-everything food fads going around have demonised it a bit, but if you can get half a pint of milk per day into a child on top of their normal meals, you can basically stop worrying about most childhood nutritional concerns.
For adults, you need to be more careful, but it's still pretty good.

The only thing to have with cod, chips and mushy peas from McDonaghs in Galway!

I lived with two South American guys who had never seen someone drink a glass of milk before. They thought I was crazy.

We always had milk with our dinner or lunch if it was at home, if we were out I wouldn't order milk though. I think we picked it up from my father as my mother doesn't have anything to drink at dinner but my dad will always have a pint of milk! It's delicious!:)

There is nothing better when you wake up with a hangover than a big glass/cup of really cold milk! You can feel the coldness slipping down through your body, heaven :)
