Rome. Steeped in such wonderful and rich history. If it wasn't for all the graffiti (which makes it look very dirty in places), it would be perfect.

    New York was great too.

I know west Cork isnt a city. Its probably one of the most breath taking places I have been to( and I have seen the tallest building in the world, great wall of china, terracotta warriors, jungles). I still think west Cork is unbelievable beautiful

saigon - very interesting place in general. Cultural capital of 'communist' vietnam as opposed to hanoi the actual capital. official name is ho chi min but the population arent in general loyal to the northern government

cairo so many amazing sights. went before sept 2001 so possibly a very different experience now. At the time it was safe enough to wonder around the poorer parts of the city. city of the dead was an amazing experience.

port elizabeth south african beach city.

derry lovey place for a pub crawl

    edinburgh beautiful city

    oxford beutiful and interesting history.

florence i reckon the most stunning city ive seen

san sebastian great relaxed vibe and a nice base to head on to san fermin in pamplona.

poznan only there for a few days at euro 2012 but felt the people were really friendly and want to go back.

chicago been to nyc too many times and only once to chicago. great north american city by the lakes. would like to experience in the summer.

seville. great student city and near so many amazing cities in one of europes most interesting regions.

austin. best student nighlife in usa.

rio not the most beautiful city but possibly the city in the most beautiful location.

merida venezuela. young population. great activities and sights nearby

la paz. bolivian capital. had a great few days and wished I had more time so would love to go back.

cuzco same as above. 4 nights wasnt enough. Treated as a base camp for inca trail but its a fantastic location in its own rights and the people are a great laugh.

Bangkok- best city ever, lots to do and see and people are awsome
Phuket- crazy nightlife and people are great
Hanoi- Mad city with people everwhere! Friendly too
Nice- lovely to walk around and lots of places to eat and drink

Kilkenny and Galway city are great, we're so lucky to have such great places to go, so much to do in Ireland and people are the best!

Chiang Mai - The mixture of incredibly good food, beautiful surroundings, endless things to do, really friendly locals and a very good nightlife makes this one of my favourite places in the world.

Bangkok - The amazing skyline, the diversity of the place, the architecture, the way it just makes you feel alive. My favourite city in the world.

Berlin - Unbelievable city, stunning architecture, brilliant history, excellent nightlife.

San Diego - Lovely city, great beaches, great people, loved it.

South Lake Tahoe - Nicest place I think I have ever been. Lake itself is stunning. City is half in California and half in Nevada, so has casinos etc and also is quiet. Was there for 2 months, didn't see 1 fight or even argument, didn't have any hassle, so friendly.

Rousse, Bulgaria. It's a border city along the Danube. Beautiful place. For some reason the whole city smells of lavender in late summer.

Ok I'll bite and give a reason like in the other thread:

Krakow -friendly people, great surroundings and very cheap compared to what I'm used to
    Budapest - ditto
    Prague - ditto
Crete - Could go for the party lifestyle if you choose or go for a more relaxed trip only a few kilometres away
Munich - Beer festival, stereotype, but good fun
Durban - Great scenery beside the beach, even though it's fairly dangerous as well as cities go
Cambridge - I don't think there are that many great places to see in the UK but Cambridge I liked, obviously the university helps
Edinburgh - Similar, very well preserved historic city
NYC - Need I say more
New Orleans - Very liberal for the US, can drink beer in the street, if you are young free and single head there for sure
Milwaukee - Cold weather, but more relaxed than Chicago I found plus more fun
Panama City - Great weather and laid back people
Auckland - Lots to do and not particularly expensive
Buenos Aires - I like all things Argentinian so this was great for me, even though the accent can be tough
Bogota - If you know where to go it's so cheap and people are incredibly open and friendly (as they get less tourists than other South American countries)
Medellin - More European style but still a lot of fun
Bangkok - Assault on the senses, either love it or hate it, I loved it to be honest
Sydney - So much to do and see there, hard to get bored

Shanghai. It's an absolutely mental place - has the feel of a western city but still an authentic eastern feel to it too. So long as you're aware of the scams, and don't mind people offering you various combinations of the word 'lady', 'sex' and 'massage' wherever you go, the place is incredible. The museum is free and has wonderful collections of Chinese art and artefacts that you could spend ages looking at. The buzz about the place was incredible. :)
Also Suzhou, which is close to Shanghai, is a lovely alternative if you prefer somewhere less crowded (there's only about 9 million or so there! :pac:) Loads of lovely gardens, canals and great restaurants there.

I'd also love to go back to Paris and Amsterdam 'cause I didn't get to see enough of them (former was a badly organised school trip, while the latter I only got to spend two nights in).

    Paris

One of the true classic cities of the world. Beautiful architecture, so much to see and do, steeped in a rich history, excellent food, superb public transport... it has it all. Add in, to hear that lyrical and musical French language. I may not be the biggest fan of the French (especially when we're playing them in rugby), but Paris is one of the finest cities in the world. A jewel of a city that everyone should visit at least once.

    Rome

Like Paris, Rome is another classic city of the world. Even richer history awaits here; this is truly the cradle of all Western civilisation. The staggering beauty of the Ancient Roman structures, up to the Renaissance statues and fountains, to the breathtaking grandeur of the Vatican City. It has it all. Granted, the public transport isn't the best (compared to other European cities), but taxis are cheap. The food is top notch (proper pastas, pizzas and all that!). Again, a city that everyone should visit at least once.

    London

Again, another classic city that has all the sights, the history and the grandeur. The sprawling metropolis that makes up London is truly vast, but thanks to the world-famous Tube it is easy to navigate. Everywhere you go, there are sights to see. From historical sights, to famous buildings, to world famous football stadiums, this has it all again. It is just a city to be absorbed into and to just admire. The cultural significance of so much of London makes it a city that I love to visit (although admittedly I mostly visit it for football matches!).

    New York

The most famous city in the world? The Big Apple. The City That Never Sleeps. The Melting Pot. The City Of Skyscrapers. Whatever you want to call it. New York City is just a little bit magic.

There is so much to see and do in New York, you could spend a year in the city and never do the same thing twice. Cosmopolitan and vast, this is a city that can just suck you in and you don't mind because it is just an awesome experience. The food is superb and it is almost impossible to eat badly in the city. The public transport is top notch.

The citizens themselves have a real world-weary, biting, cynical sense of humour and are generally quite friendly.

The rich cultural history of this city makes it a bit special; virtually everyone in America has some connection to New York City if they are descended from anyone who immigrated from Europe. New York was the main entry point, at Ellis Island. Visiting Liberty Island (home of the famous Statue) is particularly poignant; for how many millions of people was the towering lady holding aloft the torch their first sight of the New World? How many millions of people passed beneath the gaze of Lady Liberty on their way to a new life?

Of course, the most heartbreaking and moving area of New York are the memorials at the site of the 9/11 Terrorist Attacks. I actually have a lump in my throat right now just remembering being there. The hundreds of names listed in columns. It puts it in perspective of how many innocent people lost their lives on that awful day in September.

New York... one of the best places in the world to visit. Seriously.

    Las Vegas

Sin City, The Entertainment Capital of the World... Gomorrah? Whatever you want to call it, this place has to be seen to be believed. Everything, I mean absolutely everything, is bigger, louder, harder, faster, brighter, better in Las Vegas. The centre of the Strip/Las Vegas Boulevard is dominated by the sprawling casino/hotel complexes that feature in many films. Caesars Palace, The Mirage, The Bellagio, Excalibur, Aria, The Luxor, The MGM Grand... they're all here. All waiting to treat you with unending luxury and to take all your money...

Public transport is ample, but taxis are a must and they are reasonable. Shopping is unbelievable. Dozens of art galleries dotted through casinos house some of the most famous and priceless pieces of art in the world (hell, the corridor leading to the poker room in Caesars contains $60,000,000 worth of artworks; a corridor... leading to a poker room...). The casinos themselves are huge edifices that are landmarks in themselves.

Add in the Bellagio Fountains, the Mirage Volcano and so on, and there is so much to see.

But for anyone who loves a flutter or poker or anything, this is the Mecca of Gaming. 24 hours of every day, you can find a game of poker.

The food is spectacular and very reasonable. Everything is geared towards keeping you happy and contented as you gamble and work your way through the casinos. Celebrities are ten a penny. You'll find yourself spotting locations and saying "Oh yeah! I remember that from <insert film/TV show here>".

It is fake. It is in-your-face. But dammit, that's what you're going for! It's just so good, you cannot believe it until you are there.

Also, Dublin and Las Vegas are the only two locations in the world where you can use chips to pay for sex... ;)
