ACDC, end of an era

ACDC are or were a brilliant band with fantastic songs and an amazing live presence, but there comes a point, or should come a point where a band says no more. If they don't then they risk, actually it's usually a given, ending up as a cabaret band, a museum exhibit, even if it's still profitable a walking nostalgia parody of themselves. To paraphrase Johnson "An old band whose days are in the past is like watching a dog walking on its hind legs. It is not done well, but you are surprised to find it done at all."

What I always liked about The Beatles is they gave up pretty much at the right time. They may have gone on at a peak for maybe a year afterward and Imagine could have been a Beatles track, but can you imagine if they'd gone the Rolling Stones route and the Frog Song was on a Beatles album? Fuq that shít.

With a few notable and well deserved exceptions* rock and roll is nearly always a young mans** game. Young men(and women) full of spit and dreams and testosterone and anger make the best original rock and roll music. One could even argue that point across some other genres of music too.







*i'd argue our own U2, though middle aged for quite a while fought against the dying of the light and stayed relevant more than most. Springsteen isn't far behind them. The old Black Blues guys kept it going into old age.

**women can seem to keep it going for a little longer. Maybe because the testosterone isn't in play?
