Quite a spirited drive in the Jag this evening. For a 2.5 it has a very nice exhaust note, and the manual box is nice too.

In a Polish TV series, where they help people choose an ideal car, there was a 2005 S-Type 4.2... man, that thing is awesome :D

But, cheap tax! I wouldn't have a manual anyway like this anyway.

A 4.2 would be very nice. I really like these, they're lovely inside, just a bit cramped in the back.

I'd just like to figure out what all the buttons do...so many buttons.

Boxy Starlet with a 1.3l engine.

Are these belt or chain driven? Good or bad?

I'd say belt, don't know much about them. Is it a turbo one you are after?

Nah just after a plain one. I'm trying to broaden my horizons away from old Rover group cars. I'd like a second car that starts whenever I go to use it every few weeks. I've spotted one but on closer inspection it was a bit crusty round the arches.

They are a belt. Look for a 1331cc jap import with a 4 speed. Those things are shockingly fast!!!

I'm going to admit I know nothing about them. It was a EP70 5 door with huge mileage on a 1.3 DX. It's been parked outside a while and is starting to show rot around the valences and arches. Salvageable now but wouldn't want to go further.

    Worth saving?

Maybe you might consider a JDM Daihatsu Mira 0.6 Turbo AWD ?

I'm not into all that modding stuff. I actually just want a plain jane car to enjoy.

    You like Rovers yes????

I normally wouldn't advise anyone to buy a Rover per se

But if YOU really like them - id be inclined to be patient and keep an eye out for a nice example for the UK.

As a 2nd car bought simply for enjoyment - id rather have the 1st choice rather then going for a 2nd choice.

Apologies if im barking up the wrong tree though :(

Mk 2 Golf is of similar era to the boxy Starlet - and id rather have the Golf if a decent condition example could be got*

*personal preference - im not a lover of the boxy starlets tbh

I'm completely with you in all of that. I'm looking out fir a nice R8 and R6 in the UK.

It's taking time though as values are rising over there very quickly.

I thought it was going to be the 80 series one. IMO it is worth saving because they are all being killed by lads auto testing them. Dull as they are it would be nice to see some on the road still. You would want to get it cheap though if it needs bodywork...

    No worries

Are there other cars you might be interested in????

Always good to have an open mind though

It may be worth saving but my issue with them - for what Ba barubus wants it for - a 2nd car to ENJOY - is that they are dull.

Mk 2 Golf might be a better option - but I suppose prices on those are on the rise too.

That's the problem - cars that are nice/interesting to own - are more likely to be in demand.

I take a W124 Merc is too far off the track of where you want to go????.

I've learned of an 820 saloon too but I'm waiting to hear back about it. The budget is tight to buy the car but I'm happy to do it as a running project.

I also have a strange liking for old Renaults, mk1 Clios and R19's especially..

Well it clearly depends on opinion but I think the golf would be duller!!!!!:p

Not at all but it'll take me a while to get something unless it just comes along. I'd like a nice merc but I'm hampered by budget.

As for the term 'enjoy', it's all relative. A plain but originally car brings me enjoyment especially if the rest have been ruined. Something fun to drive can also be enjoyed ;)

Even looking down a bonnet at a merc badge brings enjoyment.
