Fact is if United had of gone out and got a decent manager (Mourinho, Klopp etc..) no way they'd be in the position they are now. 1st to 7th is quite frankly pathetic and the "these players aren't good enough" excuse is just a crutch for the support Moyes no matter what brigade.

Am I the only one who didn't, and still doesn't, want Mourinho anywhere near the club?

Responses like this is the reason why I stopped looking at this forum for a while.

My apologies, I didn't realise people found lighthearted responses so offensive. Let's pretend I said this instead:

"You are correct. €220,000 would not be enough money to retire on."

I hope that was sufficiently sincere.

I'm really undecided on him. What is he on now though? 8 Semifinals in 11 years or something? The majority of his former players speak highly of him.

One of the worst things about last night was Giggs never got the chance to hold the all time top UCL appereance record and its likely we will never see him in the UCL again.

Saying that Xavi would have overtaken him pretty quickly nut it would have been nice.

You can't argue with his record, absolutely outstanding, but his manner and attitude is very obnoxious. Spitting at opposition staff, the comments he makes to the press, it's just too much.

So - the season effectively ended last night - what happens now?

On the one hand, we should be looking at winning all the remaining games - but I would say Everton will be licking their lips for our visit next weekend. Also, with the season basically done I can see a lot of players checking out - the ones who will be sold in the summer anyway. Could be some more horrible performances/results on the way!

Personally I would like to see Buttner, Jones, Smalling and Raf in defence as much as possible. Would even think of giving Varela/Janko some time at right back. I'd argue for a few youth teamers in midfield, but I don't think we have any worth giving game time to at this point.

I would like to see Wilson get some minutes in one of the home games - very exciting prospect - expect him to go on tour this summer.

Certainly going to be interesting over the remainder of the season to see who gets picked and who performs.

I've just as much contempt for the comments Moyes makes to the press.

that is the type of lineup i'd be thinking of - and in fairness I do think we could be seeing a similar scenario with RVP as we saw with RVN.

RVP is a great player - but the balance and new style for United could be better served with him being moved on, and a new attack being built without him - same as RVN was moved on to allow Rooney, Ronaldo and Saha to inject more pace into the side.

I would actually look to move Rooney on instead of RVP, personally, but Rooney isn't going anywhere - the guy who gave out to Welbeck for a fine pass the Rooney fluffed, is going to be our captain.

I couldn't have that...Rooney for all his past indiscretions (and I wanted him gone myself last summer) has been the one player this season who has dug in, displayed great will and fight and no little talent. He has been responsible more than anyone else for just about keeping our heads above water.

RvP on the other hand has looked disinterested on the pitch and been disruptive off it.

If Moyes is going to continue as manager, as looks likely, it will have to be Rooney as top dog and RvP on the for sale list. Moyes needs players who will play for him, every manager needs that.

Think he is for all euro appearances (qualifirs, Uefa/Euro Cup) but not for CL proper on its own.

I don't really blame RVP. The only service he got his year was long balls or bad crosses. I'd hold onto him and get some good CM who can link defence and attack effectively.

United have a good chance of winning the league as early as next season. Bayern are there for the foreseeable future and just won the league in record time. I wouldn't move with Dortmund in the CL but this season is an anomaly for United, home games against the likes of West Brom and Newcastle costing the team a title challenge.
I dont have your confidence that ye will have a good chance of winning the league next year.
I think Chelsea and City will be the top two next year not the season after I feel ye will be back alright. But in that time Dortmund should be back challenging again, they have one of the worlds best managers and some of the top players already

It's not over yet - Arsenal to lose two and draw one of their remaining matches, United to win all five remaining matches, Everton to lose three of their remaining six. Fourth place baby.

I cant believe this talk about RVP.

He has been poor at times, but he still been scoring goals too. Important ones at times.

I just don't think you will get the best out of him, Rooney and Mata - and therefor what is best for the team - at the same time.

I think Rooney up up with Mata behind, aided by proper wingers and midfielders, has more about it than Rooney playing behind RVP with Mata on the wing.

Rooney isn't good enough to be the creative number 10 (mata and kagawa both better) and Mata shouldn't be played on the wing.

Realistically you have to get rid of Rooney or RVP. If it was me I'd keep RVP but considering what's gone on in the last 12 months United's only move really is to sell him and play Rooney at 10.

I presume you mean 9 - selling RVP and continuing to play Rooney at 10 would be crazy!

We need a LB, CM and a CB. Could argue with needing another CM. Possibly a squad player RB (do we have anyone coming from the youths?).

Moyes' first signing was a RB from Uruguay called Guillermo Varela

I think it's a bit of a dangerous attitude to take that this was somehow a freak season for United and they will automatically be back near the top again next season. City and Chelsea will both strengthen. City probably at the back and Chelsea will definitely have much better striking options next season. Liverpool will strengthen quite a bit. Arsenal probably a bit unknown at the moment. Will Wenger stay or not? But they will spend money. Spurs have a good squad and may have a good manager for a change next season. Everton will be good again if they can somehow hang onto some of their loanees or get new ones.

United are obviously going to spend as well but I think it's a bit of a reach to say they will be automatically up near the top next season. They could be but no guarantees anymore.

I'm starting to think you just have a blind spot when it comes to Kagawa or are expecting him to be some other type of player than he is and failing to notice his contributions.

He was - by a mile - United's best player last night, as he has been every time he's played with Rooney not being at 10 this year.

Kagawa was not good enough last night. Neither were the rest of the team. Whatever you think about him being our best player, he wasn't good enough.

We played for the counter attack against a team who were using their fullbacks in central midfield (and so leaving lots of space at the back) and we were still severely lacking in cutting edge on the counter.

I fully understand what type of player Kagawa is and can appreciate what he contributes. I was delighted when we signed him and have defended him in here numerous times.

I can also appreciate what his limitations are and I can see how he isn't suited to playing from wide. Last night he defended well in front of Evra, but hadn't got the legs to get forward enough from that position to help the team do the attacking that was needed.

One thing that might help us next season is getting our signings done before the world cup. No big panic at the end of the summer. It would be good for the squad if things were very stable going into start of the campaign.

I would be interested to know what you would do in summer buying and selling wise Pro?

Would you keep Kagawa and RVP?

    What about backroom team?

Jayzus, all we needed last summer was 2 players, LB and CM. And you saw the panic on the last day.

Imagine if we go into the next deadline day with 0 out of the required 4-5 signings secured!

I dont think it will be as bad this time, but I would not be totally surprised if we were in last 2 weeks in August struggling to get the 1 or 2 extra bodies needed.
