We have heavy ground and it's very wet but as you said at least grass is growing. I remember the fields all burnt this time last year from the frost

if they cant travel on the ground the grass aint much use. silage getting scarce now as well.

Im going to take a day off next week if I can and head out after a few mackerel aswell .

Bit early for them yet I'd say Moy. You might snatch a pollock or 2 alright, they usually start to show around now.

Wouldnt agree fully with that, its alright for winter feb and march but carrying on into april too thats almost 6 months without grazing if in heavy land. At least if you get a wet week in the summer ground will be able to take it as it wouldnt be as wet.

The spring was good though you cant have a full 12 months of rain and cold weather. We have had our fair share of rain now for awhile and im sure tillage lads wont be thinking about summer they have to get crops in first.

I wouldn't mind as much about the rain if I still had silage but I don't.
I'd keep them in at night then.
Cows still haven't shed there winter coat yet and look crap

Summer 2011 & 2012 were bad here in the West. I cannot remember which Summer it was but there was a clear divide in the weather conditions in the East and West, cold & wet in one cold and dry in the other.

i had a farmer ringing me looking for silage who i gave silage to last year. i wasn't going to give it as I would rather keep it in the pit for another year. I have enough until the middle of may if they were to stay in full time. I cant understand the same farmers running out of silage every year and why don't they just cut back.

I am almost coming across now as a starved fecker for not giving it but I made it my business to make sure i was going to have plenty for myself and don't want to be giving it away just because others didn't.

Telling some lads they're over stocked is worse than insulting their mother.

people didnt learn from last year. Saying that neighbour has silage bales from last year and this year in his field and wont sell:rolleyes:

its a lot easier make a surplus and have to sell than think " well i should have enough once the spring is good and if it isn't I can buy in then"

I'll post a photo of a nice rain shower round the end of July some time :p

Never got above 12 here today, herself said it was 16 in Galway though.
