How do you tell if ur ceiling is strong enuf to support a pole mine sounds very hollow am in ground floor appartment

You need to find the where the joists are and attach to those. Otherwise you may end up on your bum surrounded by plasterboard.

Havta get a stud finder so been knocking on ceiling but don't trust it wanna make sure before commit buying a pole

You could have a square bit of wood on the top of the pole so the load is more evenly dispersed, rather than a small point. Think of a high heel standing on you vs a flat shoe.

Spreading the load over the ceiling will do little. It's needs to be fixed directly to structure, either timber joists or concrete slabs.

What width is the pole. A standard hike cutter for a down lighter may cut a perfect hole that lets you go straight to concrete slab
