Why not? Though as fancy dress it wouldn't appeal to me. I wouldn't go dressed as a WW2 USAAF bomber pilot either, though some of the Nazi uniforms were pretty stylish. They can show up in the oddest places too. You may remember the first of the new Doctor Who reboot? Well Christopher Ecclestone playing the Doc was wearing a WW2 German navy Kreigsmarine leather coat, a "Nazi" item of uniform(they just changed the buttons). If they'd had an episode where they landed on a German U-Boat he would have fitted right in.

Many worry about Artificial Intelligence. I worry far more about Organic Idiocy.

Tell the party goers you're simply passing through on the way to mount a counter measure to Putin's aggression from the East.

I can see it now: A Nazi and a pub/house full of pyjama people.

Bring your friends and walk in behind them.

As I said it's an interesting debate, as time definitely comes into the issue. Pirates is also an interesting because there really are two versions of pirates in today's society, the treasure hunters and Jack Sparrows of fiction and popular culture and of course the reality which still goes on today.

And then there's the kind that bring video camera's to the cinema.....

Instead of Why Not, ask Why you would want to dress in a costume that you know will be offensive to a lot of people.

As a PP said, if you need to ask, you already know.

Because if you wear a tasteful costume, probably a no-imagination rented one at that, to a fancy dress party, you're doing it wrong.

I don't think it would ever be okay to dress in a Nazi uniform, a bit like it would never be okay to go dressed as a member of the KKK.

That's just political correctness GONE MAD!

Did the uniform / symbol kill people ? No It's associated with people that did all the killing
its an army uniform, armies 'kill' people

there are many different nationalities/governments/militias/tribes that have committed genocides.

someone mentioned the KKK, its a little known fact that Afircan tribes would gather up other Africans and sell them on to the white men as slaves. I suppose the only thing in common those Africans had was their skin color, even today there are 100's of languages spoken thru-out the different tribes.
give them sophisticated weaponry and they are just as bad as western civilization

Even the Irish have been sold as slaves ,to sugar plantations in Barbados by the English. and of course millions of us were let die during the famine by the same country. ask an Irish man what team he supports and he'll name an English city and wear that uniform

my point is: lets not single out the Nazi uniform

It is insensitive, especially if there were some Germans there. It is insensititive full stop. Not cool. The fact you question surely is telling.

Jesus just do it. People dress up as Terrorists, Axe weilding murderer's, Vikings etc. If anyone says they are offended by your outfit say, "Thats nice" and walk away like a boss. A Hugo Boss.

Hard to beat the SS uniform for style,
Don't see an issue with it myself given people dress up in all kinds of material that could be seen as offensive depending who is looking.
Any reference to death camps or the like would not be advisable though and i would be slow dressing in such an outfit as you might just draw criticism / Trouble.

I wouldn't wear one but I would not be offended if someone had one, nor would I be offended if they were dressed as a Black and Tan, the Pope,Queen mother, Bono, Larry Murphy etc etc.

I suppose I just don't get offended as easily as others.

Wearing that uniform IS a reference to death camps, that is the point.

    Of course, it IS Ireland.
