We could do this all day I doubt any military uniform in history has not committed an atrocity of some kind or another. Their all worn by people who job it is to kill other people.

    What about The Salvation Army?

Is it too soon? What's your opinion?

My opinion would be that enough time has elapsed so that it's ok to now dress up in a nazi uniform for a fancy dress party.

Why Dont you get in before the rush and dress as a Russian soldier

So a pirate costume is out of the question then?

Did pirates commit anything on the same scale as the holocaust?

As I said it's an interesting debate, as time definitely comes into the issue. Pirates is also an interesting because there really are two versions of pirates in today's society, the treasure hunters and Jack Sparrows of fiction and popular culture and of course the reality which still goes on today.

Personally I think it's too soon, and I think if the OP has to ask then he/she knows it too. Why risk a potentially awkward situation?

Dressing up in a costume does not make you a Nazi or a murderer. Is dressing up as a priest ok ?

They advocate killing gay people. So no, not The Salvation Army.

But you cant separate a military uniform from People who did all the killing. If they all wore pink tracksuits they would still have been Nazis and killed.

That's different. I don't think it's possible for anyone to see the Nazi uniform and not think of / remember the holocaust, that doesn't mean I think people who wear the uniform to a fancy dress are Nazis.

However people can see a pirate costume and the only thing that will cross their mind is Captain Hook or Captain Morgan.

So all the murdering, rape, pillaging is ok because Disney made them loveable ?

Why don't you try it and see how people react?

It would brand you a complete a$$hole in my eyes, but I am sure there are people who would think you are great craic:rolleyes:

What about a WWII Russian uniform ? They were not to nice to the German civilian population...

It's about association. The Nazi uniform will always be associated with the holocaust. Pirates however (yes thanks to Barrie and Disney) are now associated with adventure, fun, and treasure hunting. I'm not saying that's right, I'm saying that's how it is.

Nor to their own indigenous Jewish population.

    Yeah it's fine.

Nazi's certainly knew how to dress stylishly.

    No big deal really.

I wore one to my brother's 40th, and that wasn't even fancy dress.
    Got loads of compliments.

I wouldn't see anything wrong with it, it's no different than dressing as a roman, hun, ghost, vampire.. They're all bad guys.

I always have to laugh whenever my town has a fancy dress, you see everything from black faces to nazi's to peadophile priests. Everyone takes it in the spirit it was meant and no one seems to assume you agree with Nazi policy just because you wear the uniform to a fancy dress.

I probably wouldn't do it, but also wouldn't have a huge problem with others doing it.

Why is the German Army uniform of the time then not treated the same. Not everyone was Nazis Plenty of normal troops guarding the Death camps and killing civilians.

Would you be happy in someone turning up dressed like a Black and Tan?

What does a Black & Tan look like?

Dont understand what would be wrong with this at all, I dressed up as a zombie once this doesn't mean I support the living dead walking the earth. Ive seen people dressed up as red coats in parties in Ireland don't think anyone objected. There is probably no costume that you couldn't find someone to object to if you really looked.

So what your saying is Nazis should hire Disney to improve their public image such that every child will have a Nazi teddy bear in it's bedroom.
