Thanks vandriver for your help. This is a Sparrowhawk I photographed last week in my garden in Dublin. He was eating a Great tit.

Fantastic shots! Had one visiting my garden for a few weeks a couple of years back too, beautiful bird.

Males have striking little colours on them. Wonder does the males get chosen by females by the brightens colours like some other bird species

Went out to photograph some red squirrels, They did not come out to play ended up with these guys.

Hey everyone. I've never posted to this thread, I'm usually in the photography section. This thread is brilliant and I'll definitely be back!!

I'm in India at the moment and I'm surrounded by incredible birds. Some seem extremely tame. I have a lens with a max zoom of 55mm so I can only get a shot when they are REALLY close. The first bird I know is a black kite:

This bird could be a black kite (I can only ID them from flight) but I really have basic knowledge on birds. An ID/confirmation would be appreciated. This bird allowed me to get within half a meter of it (I inched to make sure it was completely comfortable with me being there, I didn't want to disturb it. It seemed more than happy and it didn't even flinch). I have a close up of the upper body and head. If anyone is interested, I can upload. Here's a full body pic:
