I still get the same comments when ringing brokers and the likes at 25. It's a joke really.

Try 32 and married and that's all I was getting updating my insurance during the last couple of weeks.

Just practice the reading and try and sound natural. Regardless of the religion thing its easy to get lost while reading it out.

In college we have that's just about public speaking and giving presentations. I was useless at the start but it's like anything after giving a few presentations you get good at it. Gave my last on effects on engine compression ratios and torque when various blends of ethanol are added to petrol. It went down quite well to 80% :)

In other news someone is coming to look at the focus tomorrow so we will wait and see. I'm not overly bothered either way. I'd like to sell it but I'm not going to give it away either. Spent the last while cleaning it so at least it will look well :)

I am generally called for this kind of thing even though im not atall religious. I even eyeball the crowd and don't do the whole monotone thing, i just hate having to do it and i felt like a little moan :p

Agreed, Practice will really help you. I had to do the same thing recently (I'm hopelessly Dyslexic which doesn't help :( ) What really helped me is to print the reading out at a sensible size and number each line :)

Oh actually if were giving advice.
Look at the back wall in the church when reading. This gives the allusion your looking at everyone. Although you'll probably spend most of he time reading the sheet but just if you are looking up.

Also the reason people say aaaahhhh or emmmm ie stumbling is oxygen starvation in your brain as you've been sitting down before you Speak and aren't taking full breaths. So to rectify this before you get up forcefully breath out until your feel your lungs are completely empty and then take a deep breath. Do this a few times and you ensure your body has plenty of oxygen and you won't fumble or stumble. This actually works when I was first told it I didn't think it would but it does though.

That's great advice BP. only thing I could add to that is take your time. At funerals people tend to listen to the readings properly to identify with whatever is being read and relate it to the deceased.
