I'd drop him from my social circle if I were you.

    That's snaking

    Oh, we're not friends anymore.

I just don't get why someone would do that?

Well, there you go then... you're chatting to a lad, he seems alright, his friend comes over and does something like this and then you realise that you don't fancy people with friends like that and away you go! ;)

In my 33 years on this planet, it has never happened once.

It happened to me, I was getting on great with a girl and two guys from my socisl circle keep coming over saying weird comments and generally being obnoxious. If they couldn't get a girl they were gonna make sure no one else was either.

I'd say a lot of men would be aware of this phenomeonon.

For me its guys cockblocking each other that I dont get, sat beside a group off four lads talking to one girl all trying to be louder than each other and just putting down the other one, random nonsense calling other lads "tiny" laughing at what the other was wearing etc. They tried to get me involved I just ignored them, like they are sound lads but put a girl and drink there and they change.
I just dont get it, if a lad has got talking to a girl and gone off to a quiet corner you shouldnt go up and join them, its just wrong
Girls cockblocking each other, I havent actually witnessed really besides when the girl is twisted drunk, probably could be there is a 10 guys to 1 girl ratio where I go

Don't hold your breath. You'll understand when you're older.

So this is full of men who have experienced cock blocking and women
who have never seen it. I am confused as to whether the cock blocker is supposed to be a friend who f*cks things up for you accidentally or on purpose, or a stranger who is competing for the girl. If the latter then that's just life. You probably need to tell the rival to get lost. But it's not cockblocking.

Whatever you want to call it there are tactics men deploy who are both stangers and "friends" to make a girl lose interest in another guy.

    Impressive!

    I've definitely see cockblocking.
I've been the girl being chatted up, and I've also had a female friend attempt to cock block. She used to be ridiculous for it.
One particular attempt I got great joy out of :D We were in a bar in Oz and this really hot local guy had been drinking with us for a bit. Eventually it ended up just me and him at the bar chatting and flirting. My friend came over and squeezed herself in between us and started waffling and trying to extricate me from the situation. He just turned to her and said "excuse me, I'm trying to talk to your friend". :D Brilliant! Needless to say, I got my man.... ;)

She used to be so bad for this. Would almost always flirt with guys who were trying to chat me or one of the other girls up. Sometimes it worked in her favour, sometimes it didn't.

When in the situation where a guy's friends are cock blocking it can vary really. Sometimes you're not interested enough in the guy to battle through the childishness. Sometimes you are very interested, but the guy gives up and doesn't persevere through the messing. I guess that is a case of "he's just not that into you".

I have a mate who is always at it . He tried to do it the night I met the gf . He tried so hard to pull her and after an hour of trying it on she turned to him and said " I don't like you at all , I like your mate now fcuk off and try your crap elsewhere " . She then walked over to me and he was fuming . My gf has given him tips but he won't listen to them at all . He is one of those blokes that come on too strong and my gf has told him many times not to bother acting that way .

I am just amazed people don't know what it is and never experienced. It reminds me of the old saying if you can't spot the idiot in the room it is you.

I don't think all cock blocking is intentional many people are just clueless. I had a friend who never seemed to see when things were going well and that he should leave me and the lady alone. It eventually came to the point where I would just say "Go away now". Then I would just say he is the weird friend we all have.

Cock blocked by a stranger is perfectly acceptable, have done it myself and gone off with the lady instead. That is just competition but you don't do it to your friends

I reckon where you're going wrong is that you need to be more assertive in marking your territory, OP. Try cocking your leg and peeing on the girl you're talking to next time. That should send a strong signal to other males.

I cock blocked my brother by sitting in the kitchen when he was cooking dinner for his GF, candle lit and all that jazz....

    Just because.

I've seen it attempted.. but how often does it actually work?

If two people are getting on well and like each other, some clown trying to get in the middle isn't going to have much of an effect.

Id say it works probably majority off the time, if the girl doesnt just make excuses and leave the guy could just get bored off trying when everything he says is laughed at by another guy in group

This is called girls looking out for their friends. If you are the sort of guy who thinks scoring with a girl who is too drunk to give consent is OK, I suppose you might call it cockblocking.

My mate once told the friend of a girl i was trying to bring home that i was married. It caused a row , luckily the girl came with me but not before the two girls had a blazing row on harcourt street .

Happened to me a few times when meeting a girl and her mate starts a row or guilts her for her having to get taxi home alone or something.
one girl told her mate that she didn't like the look of me and i could be a rapist. said it loud enough for me to hear :(

That is a different breed alright. There is at least some real reason to be annoyed about a friend leaving you to go off with somebody. Blokes don't mind it but women do run a little added danger to a friend they leave behind.

Woman do have a more hardened rule about leaving friends behind. Whether it is real danger or not doesn't matter woman agree not to leave friends behind. Hence argument happen when the rule is broken. It is protection meant for both the person going and the person leaving on their own.

Making a guy self concious by carpet bombing him with insults disguised as banter is another tactic cockblocks deploy. The guy loses his mojo and the girl loses interest in him.

Bullsh1t. This sounds like the crap espoused by PUA zealots to explain their lack of success.

Really? It is pretty difficult to find anybody sober in a night club in Ireland. Do you just mean when they are falling down/passed out drunk?

Oh wow... cannot believe that haha! I've never met any women like this at all. And if a 'friend' of mine was to do something like that? We wouldn't be friends much longer.

I thought cock blocking only happened in the American films. I've never witnessed it myself, at least not from fellas anyway. From my experience its usually the girls who try to sabotage the guys chances with her friend because she's jealous or whatever.

Wouldn't that be fanny blocking then?

true...he is a long standing friend and apologised like mad - said he was trying to say something else and made a bags of it.
I don't believe him though I think he was drunk and envious.

don't see him anymore but that's more to marriage and kids.
