Dang, think my h100 pump just failed. Took the front cover off my case tidy a fan cable and the pump started making a whining noise. Restarted and same prob. Checked temps in RealTemp, CPU is idling at 100°C!!!

Took the H100 off to RMA it this evening. Check out the below, it does not look good! Screws holding down the heat plate are covered in corrosion, weird gunk appears to be leaking out top, wth is that? This unit is less than 2 years old, been sitting in my tower since day 1. I think I may have caught a break with the pump failing now and not before the thing leaked all over my hardware!

Under those conditions I'm not surprised your H100 went and killed itself. :P

That sucks. Did you get in contact with Sapphire or Overrclockers about how to address it? If there was any fix? Too late now I suppose.

I didnt bother to be honest. After the second RMA I just wanted rid quick as possible. No other 290 really interests me so ive decided to go back to nvidia

I guess i was just really unlucky.. although theres a handful of videos on youtube of people with the same issue but as always many many more people have gotten perfect cards

Raspberry pi just arrived, such amazing little thing! Went for the bundle, buying items separately ended up more expensive.
Running fusion and xbmctorrent addons, buffering of 1080p video takes about 5-10 seconds on eircom fibre, playback is silk smooth. Supports 5.1 and 7.1 over HDMI.
All that on 2 watts, very impressive!
    screenie (stream from tpb)
Also running lightweight web server on it.
Controlled by android phone or any web browser at home... uses port 80 by default for this.

Guess I'll pass on building HTPC for now

I got my Raspberry Pi and got it all setup working like a charm. I was having trouble getting it to recognise a 2nd external hard drive but it's working perfectly now.

I just found out today about Show Box. Using this android app alongside Yatse android remote to 'Send to XBMC' is a godsend. I'm setting this all up for my sister and this is such a simple and straight forward setup for anyone who is non techie. :)

I chose Yatse over official mote, as well. Lovely app.

Is it really as easy as it sounds? I want to set one up to run as a 24/7 torrent client + mkv player, attached to TV via hdmi. I need to be able to search for torrents and do some admin remotely (start/stop torrents, move files). And for media consumption it needs to easily work with a simple remote, no keyboard (android app would be ok) - the non-techies in the house will need to use it so it's got to be easy to use.

Currently doing everything with a dedicated win 7 laptop + qbitorrent. Not very elegant but it does the job and makes it simple to take all our current shows with us when we travel.

Raspbmc comes with SSH, FTP, VNC and web server pre-installed, although VNC needs to be enabled.
The both short and long answers are - yes you absolutely can.

There are various linux OS you can choose to run, raspbian is pi version of debian (same one that ubuntu uses), the only limiting thing here I can think of is storage space for what you want to achieve.
You can connect to the box using SSH that will give you CLI or some VNC (remote desktop) client like UltraVNC (multiplatform) for GUI and window interface.
For storage - you can either get a large SD card or external HDD besides it that runs on its own power, since pi can't supply enough

In fact this has been done, ofc

Good news for anybody who missed out on the Ncase m1 the first time out, got sent a campaign update, they are going to do another run following feedback from those using the first rum of cases to see if there are any issies so they can apply any design tweaks. Should show up on kickstarter in a few months time

Anyone know the cost of sending a case ? Few people interested in my 300r but no idea on cost of posting it from Cork to Dublin. Haven't got a chance to get a quote as I've up the walls with work.

    Depends how much it weighs.

anpost.ie and calculate the postage within Ireland. I'd say around 15 euros.

    That looks fantastic!
Still think I'd side with the H440 in black and red though :P

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,618 ✭✭✭Revoker88

Yeah the h440 is so nice, and everything else i have is red and black theme too.

Really like the look of the corsair one aswell though....first world problems!!

Gonna wait till the NDA is lifted for a thorough review before making up my mind, still leaning with the h440 for now though.

I got my SSD 2 weeks ago but it seemed like a lot of effort to install it..

Am I right to just unplug hard drive, install on SSD and then install drivers and programmes, set HDD as my storage drive in Chrome and Steam

That's exactly how I set up my system when I got an SSD. Windows should know which drive has the OS installation so it should be easy. Make sure you disable hibernation and just use sleep/shutdown. Also disable Defragmentation, Super Fetch and Indexing. If you get software with the SSD it will probably do this so it would be a good idea to install it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,181 ✭✭✭Serephucus

I'd leave Superfetch enabled. It actually makes a lot of sense to be used with an SSD. Everything else can be disabled for capacity/longevity reasons though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 626 ✭✭✭Seaaan

Alright. Have os installed on it but haven't done drivers. Can I run steam/chrome/games from hard drive then, while using ssd for windows only?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,014 ✭✭✭Baked.noodle

Install your Apps to the SSD. Go into the settings for Steam and Chrome and set up a download folder on the Plate drive. When installing games that don't use Steam just change the drive letter during install.

Ugh such effort. I'll do it in the morning..
How long do HWVS take with replacing cards? Mine is in Belgium now.. I'd like to have it by next Saturday :(

Just ordered a custom mouse mat for 99c. Let's see if it ACTUALLY arrives here, or if it'll be dumped somewhere.. I hardly care for that price anyway.

Imagine using it with low sensitivity ... if you did a sharp turn you would fling the mouse across the room.

for SSD installs Just make sure AHCI is enabled in the BIOS (under SATA controller) and install as usual. I usually remove hibernation (saves ~4-8gb) with "powercfg -h off" in CMD with admin priv. No need to mess with any other tweaks most blogs recommend.

also hey guys long time no see :)

Will HWVS email me to tell me they've shipped my new card? I'll have to change the delivery address for it, as it's set to my home address.
