(i hope) a car in which the steering wheel and pedals can move from the right hand side to the left at the click of a switch, it'll make driving on the continent much easier

I have a funny feeling that some super car will be invented.. Something like a de Lorean that can time travel..

Not like the old one that anyone could switch off.

I have a vibrating contraption for mine.

Yes but these vibrating toothcleanermacgooglelators still involve moving the feckin' thing around the mouth. Had one and hated it as well. Something you can stick in your gob (oooh patron etc etc) that does the job in second. Like one of them snazzy Dyson hand dryers that dry your hands with one insert. Ye dig?

We have that already, it's called booze.

A force field that covers your body so if you fall it 100% protects you from injury, or a mouthpiece that works like a fishes gills so you can breath underwater without having the need of oxygen tanks.

I reckon there will be holographic cinema/TVs sit there and the technology fills the room somehow.

As much of a gimmick as 3D is the jump in quality between say watching Gravity and watching Jaws 3D thirty odd years ago is staggering. So 50 years from now who knows.

A machine that cleans your teeth thoroughly in seconds. Can't believe we're still scrubbing away with toothbrushes in 2014!

I have a vibrating contraption for mine.

All electronics will harvest energy from around them with the main supplementing if more power is needed. Also tables that let you put your TV on them and electricity will flow through the base (this kind of exists already but is being focused for recharging batteries). No more wires.

Solar powered 3D printed homes with holographic walls, floors, and ceilings for the totally immersive experience! Wake up in the morning and don't like the colour of your walls? Change them, change your whole surroundings to the virtual tour of the Grand Canyon! Imagine taking a shower surrounded by scenery from Niagra Falls, then kicking back James and the Giant Peach style to explore the fascinating world of insects from the comfort of your living room... :D

Only to be interrupted by your boss projecting into your home and telling you get back to work :(

    Needs more thought... :o

Sooner or later, we'll run out of space to inter our dead.

After that, we'll end up doing what we will also end up doing with the rest of our, forgive the term, remains. Rubbish, random crap, unusable byproducts.

Into the sun will it all go. The tech to do that cost-effectively. That's going to be worth a bloody fortune.

Not my idea, various sci-fi books/shows/etc have referenced it at times.

Smart cars with auto driving and collision avoidance. They'll report back to a central command centre so the location of every car is known which will allow for automatic traffic management and it'll all go great until a cyclist gets in the way.

    Also voice control that works.

A programmable hair cutter. It looks like one of those big hair dryers that you see women sitting under in the hairdressers but there's a shaver inside it. You program in the length and style you want and it gives you the perfect haircut. It's so good it will put hairdressers and barbers out of business and no one will ever have a bad haircut again.

Pretty much everything listed here is surely possible and indeed likely already in lab development. The only catch is the IP & patent pending holders usually take 10yrs to draw up product/legal/marketing plans for maximum monetization through competitive risk reduction analysis before route to market.

So < 10ys from now commercial retail will see graphite, nanotech, VR, AR, AI tech and regular space tourism.
...and industry may avail of zero-point energy, ion-pulse travel, cold nuclear fission etc.

Anyone know if Ire has a state futurologist with outline plans for the next century underway?
Or maybe its just lots of debt management suits n' quangos?
