Dublin public Hospital hires scientist with no experience and didn't advertise job

A Dublin public hospital hired a scientist with no experience. She had just finished her degree a couple of weeks earlier. She was not there on jobbridge and is directly employed by the hospital. I have loads of friends with Med Lab Science Degrees and they all either can't get Med Lab jobs, work abroad or work in industrial labs.

    1. Why did the Dublin Hospital hire someone with no experience who had just finished college a couple of weeks earlier? Why did nobody who had experience get hired?

    2. Why wasn't the job advertised? I was on that hospital's website for external candidates all the time and never saw the job advertised. All jobs should be advertised. It should be still advertised even if it was a graduate role as other graduates would like to apply.

I can't put up a link to the woman in question. I have seen photos of her graduation (Class of 2013) and she started working in a State Hospital at the end of the Summer 2013. The hospital don't put such details online but I saw her graduation photos pictured with her mother. I saw her graduation photos from Summer 2013, she is 22 and from the Developing World but studied in Dublin.

Maybe she was the best person for the job but this is not necessarily the case.

How much of this is actual fact and how much is hearsay and conjecture?

OP, I have no idea what you're on about. Can we just blame flouride or the Illuminati and have done with it?

    Is this a serious question?

Either she's hot, dating someone important, or related/close friends with someone important in the hiring process.

It's the way of the world. And while it's easy to say it's wrong (and it is wrong), when it is your turn to hire someone and you've got a choice between a stranger or your nephew who you know is qualified - who will you pick?

No way I'd shag my nephew, no matter how hot he is.

Who owns the tent? There was a horse running at Cheltenham yesterday called My Tent or Yours.

How on earth are people supposed to answer those questions?

"Answers" to this thread are just guesses btw.

conjecture isnt a type of evidence, its an opinion without sufficient evidence.

What prompted you to enquire here at just before midnight tonight, after such a time lapse? Would it be possible that the hospital wanted to hire a newly graduated person for the position?

not trying to be a smartass here, but why do you think you know better than the people who hired her? Perhaps she was the perfect person for the job, her qualifications, recommendations that accompanied her previous placements may have been excellent. Fair enough who you know is something that occurs a lot these days, but you seem very put out by this.

for instance you didnt see the job advertised so what are the job particulars, perhaps this hospital has a policy of giving recent graduates a chance to get experience. Is she getting paid or is this an internship, as you said if you didnt see any advertisement for this, how can you be sure this wasnt a graduate opportunity.

And clearly she does have experience, OP, working in a state hospital at the end of the year is still experience. I'd say move on and be happy for the girl, she clearly did something right and finally graduates are getting job opportunities. Same thing might happen for you or your friends,

 WTF has that got to do with anything? Racist much?

Also, try replying to the thread instead of constantly re-editing your OP, it helps the flow of discussion....

She's from the same world as the rest of us. The term most people use now is developing world. It doesn't sound so diminishing.

She might also not be working for the hospital itself, which is why you may not have seen the job advertised. She might be working for a private company using hospital facilities in a research capacity.

She might also just be a better bet for the job than you are.

completely agree with this, no one is entitled to a job over someone else. The most suitable candidate will be chosen and quite often traits and personality can win over experience and skills. OP, your post reeks of bitterness and a sense of entitlement over someone you don't even know, never mind not even knowing the details of the job itself

At least 3 times, possibly more.

Edit: She just did it again while I was posting that so I thought I'd get in on the act.

Why don't we all just edit our posts instead of replying and let's see how confusing we can make this thread become :)

Maybe she was the best person for the job but this is not always the case in the public sector.

Nepotism does exist in Irish society but thankfully it is largely free in the science industry. That said I have known under qualified people getting jobs in hospital labs through contacts. A biochemistry lab in a hospital is where they test values of certain molecules eg cholesterol, urea, uric acid and biomarkers for cancer and other diseases eg P53. If you get this wrong it's not unrealistic to say you're endangering patient's lives. I would hope that people wouldn't endanger other people's lives just to give a friend a job.

Actually, she is hot but there are lots of hot women who can't get a job in Hospital Labs.
