Where's the option for alcoholics who aren't ready to admit it?

Where's the 'Few times a year' option?

    I feel left out now.

I started drinking when I was 17 or so, I'm 32 now and the time has come to kiss it good by, The older I get the more horrible the hangovers are getting.

A beer with or after dinner. Every night. Absolutely no harm in it.

    Everything in moderation.

When will you stop being an alcoholic?

I'd have a few drinks once or twice a week. I can't go all out like I used to on a night. Flew through hangovers from when i started drinking at 17 till I was about 21, ever since then it's been a steady slope into needing 2-3 days recovery time from a heavy night.

No harm in it at all, but if you're having it every night with dinner it's not exactly 'in moderation' is it?

I would say it is a perfectly moderate amount .

Im taking about 500ml of lager .

Beer is good for your heart.

It doesn't matter if you're a male or a female, drinking beer keeps your heart healthy. According to a study Researchers at Italy's Fondazione di Ricerca e Cura, moderate beer drinking (a little more than a pint of beer a day) makes you 31 percent less likely than those who don't drink to suffer from hearts attacks, strokes or heart disease

I would go as far to say that 500ml of coke would be worse .

I was heavy on the booze for most of my 20s, binge drinking at the weekend.

Hardly drink at all now, sometimes the odd hot whiskey at home or Guinness if I go to the pub which is maybe a few times a year.

I could drink well over 10 pints years ago, now 3 pints and I'm full.

IMO I think the older you get the less you are able to drink.

    I drink 4 pints on a Friday night. I don't get drunk.
This is just a social drink with friends and we discuss our week gone by.
    Its nice and relaxing.

That seems to be the case alright. Although even when I was younger I always hit a wall after the 4th pint. I literally cannot get anymore in to me after that. Too full.

When will you stop being an alcoholic?

You never stop being an alcoholic. You just learn to deal with it. Usually by not drinking. At all. Ever.

    Varies.

Usually about 2 weekends in a month, sometimes more sometimes less. I do try and have at least one weekend where I don't drink and I rarely drink week days anymore.

Usually would drink enough to get pretty tipsy when I do drink, maybe between 5 and 9 pints but not badly so. .

I drank a fair amount between the ages of 18 and 22, but that wasn't uncommon in the late 80's/early 90's. I'm 41 now and I only drink at weekends. Mostly gin and slimline tonic, with a lot of tonic. I rarely get drunk, I don't need to and it's harder to get over a hangover once you reach your 30's.

I don't drink every weekend and I often tip a drink down the sink before I'd go to bed rather than drinking it for the sake of drinking it. My husband gives up booze for Lent, as a health thing, and I give it up as well to provide moral support.

I can't handle and loathe hangovers, so I've basically given up going on the piss.

I used to drink. Once I got to the point where I was drinking two bottles of vodka a day I decided to stop.

If only the whole process had been as easy as those two sentences make it sound. But on the whole it's fair to say that I prefer life without alcohol. Not drinking suits me far better than drinking does.

It varies for me. I could go months without drinking, and even then when I do drink, I wouldn't drink an awful lot. A glass of wine or two at dinner maybe, the odd gin after work, that sort of thing. I never drink at home, it would never occur to me to buy a bottle of wine on my way home from work, let alone crack it open in front of the TV!

never, Im afraid. Ill always be alcoholic, hopefully though I will contain it by not drinking. One day at a time.

Not easy. I do think about it from time to time, especially when Im angry hurt or emotional, then I think ' **** it, Ill get drunk, ' but thankfully, I havent yet.

I wonder what "regularly" means in the poll. If I drink on my birthday every year and no other day that is "regular".

I used to be a heavy drinker - especially in college - but then I just grew out of it suddenly. I blame this in part on a night when some friends and I went to a no alcohol gig in Dublin City. Coming out of the gig and walking down streets in dublin was my first sober experience of the "Walking Dead" effect of seeing the drunken population of Dublin stumble - fall - fight - and puke their way around the city. I decided I did not want that to be me any more.

Now I go out occasionally but would not have more than 2 - if that - drinks in a night and when I throw my monthly house party Id likely have a wine with dinner and at most 2 more in the night. I do not miss being drunk - at all.

I regularly drink. I get drunk about once a week and regularly have one or two drinks on other days of the week.

In the last few years, I've started smoking a lot more weed than previously and I've noticed that it's led to me drinking less.
