Just installed a USB port so I can now charge my phone while riding. Where it is mounted it does not affect the steering 1798862_10151945002602102_149073689_n.jpg 1960027_10151945002437102_520717639_n.jpg

Was fairly straight forward, just had to remove some fairings and connect it straight to the battery. It already has an inline fuse on it

Has a built in 5V voltage converter/regulator I take it?

I have a tank bag that the phone goes into, it has a little weather proof slot for headphones/USB cord to fit through

Perfect for when using maps/GPS on your phone as that tends to eat your battery

I have an auxiliary port on the Sprint 1050st comes as standard. Its a Din type jobbie that you get on the BMW's, I have to get a male din to USB or cigarette plug to charge my stuff for going abroad.

Maplins will be getting a visit very soon.

I got one of these bad boys and it worked perfect with my iPhone on the way through europe, tucked in nicely under the seat on the gixxer and the best part is, that is has an auto cut off function that cuts out if the battery voltage drops below a certain voltage which is great if you leave something charging and forget about it, wont drain your battery it also has a surge protector inbuilt so if the rectifier goes then you wont fry your phone! Might aswell mention that i used the tom tom iphone app with some earphones in while i was riding and it worked perfectly, and its free to use after you buy the app, so you dont need to worry about really expensive roaming data charges :) ... In other news i just put some stompgrip tank grips on the bike to stop from crushing my nuts off the tank every time i beak hard and slide into the tank but now I have blisters on my fingers after putting them on :( waaa

So i went for a spin today over the gap and half way up i lost the front cylinder.... Had to coax it back home 35km. got home and removed the spark plugs and noticed there was gunk and moisture in the front spark plug hole and all over the exposed part of the plug when it was removed.

Bit of research tells me its a common fault on the SV when riding in the rain or after washing! there is a little drain hole in the head that's meant to let out moisture but it gets clogged with ****e and the moisture builds up causing a weak spark or no spark at all.

I had the plugs out so i put new plugs in and cleaned the plug hole out, cleaned the plug leads and gave it all a nice coat of WD40. Glad it was an easy fix, had thoughts as i was slowly riding home of having to strip the engine and replace valves or worse

Any other lads driving SVs ever have this problem?

fairly common as you said! was going to suggest the above in the other thread

can get yourself a fender extender to help a bit

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,064 ✭✭✭aaakev

I'm sick i didn't know until i got back because it would have been an easy fix on the side of the road with the tools we had with us! Yeah i must look for an extender online because it was a pain in the hole :o

Since I've heard good things about these brushes, I've just bought 3.... They probably won't wash off all that well, so probably only one or 2 use only.... but I just bought 3 for 8 euro delivered! That's cheaper than the clothes and tooth brushes I constantly have to acquire from my mother.

So, did nothing to the bike, but might as well throw this up in case anyone is looking for same :)

I can't find anywhere on the website how many amps this supplies. Do you know?
It would be nice if it supplied 2 amps

Not sure TBH, all i can tell you is that it works for me and without issue I'm not an expert at electronics and dont claim to know too much but it states that "USB charging port – just like your PC or laptop – but on your motorcycle" and i think a pc / laptop usb port provides around 0.5 to 1.0 amps so it'll charge your device just not at the same speed as a wall socket would.

As per USB specification it supplies max of 1A. Wall socket charger also have max 1a. Shouldbt be any difference in charging times provided the USB doesnt power anything else (like a mouse/keyboards/usb camera etc etc).

Cheers for that, my point with the time was that the more amps allowed through a charger the faster an item will charge.

Say for example your iPhone can draw 2 amps while charging and a wall socket charger would allow 2 amp current through it, then the wall socket charger will charge the phone faster than a usb port that only allows 1 amp of current through it.

On long journeys it doesnt really matter, for me, I just charged the phone fully before taking off and then plugged it into the usb port on the bike while riding (4 - 5 hours) and my phone was still fully charged when i arrived even though i was running the satnav app and spotify the whole time.

Youre reasoning is correct however the more amps you use to charge a battery the more wear you put on it. In short the faster you charge the battery the faster it's condition deteriorates and the less charge it will hold with each charge.

Steep them in KEROSENE and they will be like new after about an hour...;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,650 ✭✭✭✭minidazzler

I plan to use them with pure kerosene anyway for cleaning the chain so will have a 5 litre drum, if steeping them works then I'll be lovely and give my buddy one of the brushes, maybe it'll convince him to clean his chain :pac:

will kerosene not damage the o rings?
