ITV HD not working

The transponder for UTV HD has a symbol rate of 22000. The symbol rate on the transponders carrying the various ITV HD channels is 23000. If you can add channels with that symbol rate to your receiver you can get them. Not all receivers can handle the 23000 symbol rate.

Its also DVB-S2 rather than standard DVB-S..... which is what a lot of people may be missing.

So why have ITV used symbol rates that current boxes can't use? I feel I must be missing something!

Pretty sure it's only Sky boxes that limit you to preset choices of symbol rate for manual tuning.

Even my Lidl SL45 will accept anything from 2000 - 35000.

I checked that on Google before I posted above. I only looked at the first result which seems to show that at least one non Sky receiver had the same limitation, now possibly resolved.

My understanding is DVB-S2 TPs are more efficient regarding bandwidth utilization over DVB-S TPs. However I do not know why they use the symbol rate of 23K instead of 22/27.5K. Perhaps someone can step in with a good reason!

Irrespective though, as STB points out, even if the SR was 22 or 27.5K, the Sky box won't let you scan the DVB-S2 TP to add the channel anyhow.

I should say my box is a Freesat Manhattan Plaza HD-R not a Skybox. Its just very odd that the UTV variant of HD works fine but no other does.

Are you using it in FTA mode or Freesat mode using a NI postcode?

I'm using Broadcasting House! So the UTV HD is on the "non-freesat" channel list. Not a practical issue as the Manhattan box allows it to be put on the favourites list.

Puzzled as to why you can't manually tune in a DVB-S2 channel with this, as looking at the manual it has a DVB-S2 tuner.

    http://files.manhattan-receivers.com/Plaza_HDR-S/Plaza_HDR-S_User_Guide_v3.1.pdf

Heres a screenshot from a youtube video on how to do a manual non-freesat tune for a Sagem Freesat box. Would yours be a similar setup screen?

So for the transponders that the ITV HD versions are on (11068V & 11097V):

    the symbol rate is 23000
    modulation is 8PSK
    system is DVBS2
    FEC is 2/3.

I'll have a look at that tomorrow - the Plaza HR-D has no FEC parameters for some reason.

    Mike

You are changing to dvb-s2 rather than dvb-s ?

You are changing the modulation to 8PSK (rather than QSPK).

    11097 V 23000 DVB-S2 8PSK 2/3

You may have to add that transponder to the TP list as it will not have existed before.

Can you get the different versions of BBC 1 HD at 10847V & 11023H with a manual non-Freesat tune?

Parameters for these transponders are also 23000, DVB-S2, 8PSK, 2/3.

re the bbc variations they are located on the freesat epg.

if u go into manual scan for non freesat channels and add in 10847 V it finds five channels but they don't get added to the non freesat epg as they are already on the freesat epg similarily 11023h 4 channels found but again does not get added to the non freesat epg.

in non freesat mode I have 4 versions of itv hd added in by manual scan. All this on a £49 box from richer sounds. The job!

Interesting. I have a Humax HDR 1000S. The Freesat EPG is based on a Liverpool postcode. I have the HD versions of BBC 1 NI & BBC 1 Scotland stored via a non-Freesat tune, plus London ITV HD.

@mike65: do you have anything at all at 119 in the Freesat EPG (ITV HD's number)?

Yep, it breaks up to varying and random degrees. It was fine until whatever happened in late Feb happened.

What are the signal strength & quality readings on 11068V & 11097V before you attempt a manual scan on them?

Could you get the loan of another Freesat HD receiver or any FTA receiver with a DVB-S2 tuner and try that? Might establish whether its a problem with dish alignment, cabling & connections, or the receiver itself.

I'v been recommended a Humax, I'l have to order online as they more expensive in Ireland, as usual

Don't know anyone with a comparable STB and frankly I'm not arsed to spend any time on this - I have UTV HD I only watch ITV HD/(UTV) for football and er that's it. Little on that channel appeals.

Grand. Only thing is though, that if UTV HD also moves to either 11068V or 11097V, you'd be stuck then.

You didn't try by any chance try to manually tune any versions of BBC 1 HD that are on 10847V or 11023H as these transponders have the same parameters as the ones ITV HD are on?

    (23000, DVB-S2, 8PSK, 2/3).

Weird! Its working fine. Don't ask me. I don't know.

STV HD now on 10994 H 22000 along with 4 ITV SD channels and ITV+1. Channel name 12130 but it has the STV HD logo on the screen.

Is it possible to tune in this channel on a Sky HD box over here.

Will it be staying on that frequency?

    Thanks

Yes it can be tuned onto a sky+HD box.

Who knows if it will stay on that freq or not, hopefully it will stay where it is.

Does STV and UTVHD have the same bitrate?

I'm not sure but they are both very good quality IMO
