Hi. Just wondering has anybody else lost ITV HD on their Sky box. It was working fine on Tuesday night for the footy.

Yes, the Ariva doesn't have restrictions on tuning parameters like Sky box 'other channels'.

ITV HD London (10000) that was on 10832 H 22000 and
ITV HD Granada (12130) that was on 10994 H 22000 both seem to have moved.

    New TP
    London (21000), Granada (21010) 11097 V 23000

    London (20800) & Granada (20810) are still available on 11068 V 23000

    ITV Central West HD

Meridian and Central moved to this TP last week.

Why are ITV moving them in the first instance?

They are constant changes, you just don't notice, the box retunes them. Those with non-Sky boxes are constantly retuning

I wonder is there a reason why they are going behind a frequency that isn't tune-able on a sky box or it it by chance?

When the sky boxes were mandated (I think by a EU law or similar) to have to allow other channels to be added they only wrote the software to allow DVB-S transponders and a symbol rate of 22000/27500.

Sat freq technology has moved on and DVB-S2 transponders are more efficient with different symbol rate. However Sky never bothered to update their software and I don't believe they will.

Is there a specific reason why they wouldn't? - I'm sure they could also allow for recording of the "added channels" too but for some reason don't.

My Manhattan box has this now but its a rather jumpy signal at the moment, with sound dropouts. Will see if it settles. The EGP has no info for this "channel" number.

I can only toggle between symbol rate 22.0 and 27.5
    Can't select 23000 (23.0)
    Any ideas?

You cant select the symbol rate of 23 if its a sky box only 22 and 27.5 .

They could very easily amend the code but I guess it's not in their interests to update the software to allow additional symbol rates and DVB-S2 TPs. They fulfilled the EU requirement back when it was mandated that they had to and that doesn't seem to apply (or isn't being applied) to the new available TP freqs/settings. There's probably some wording that said all current freq/SR/TPs available at the time - whenever that time was - meaning DVB-S SR 22/27.5K covered all TPs on the sats present at 28East. All this written before the changes that came later.

The recording of other channels is probably a rights based issue. The fact that you can view some of them FTA is just luck of the sat. footprint. ITV and a number of other channels (as you know) aren't on the ROI EPG, so can't be recorded. If you could record them via 'Other Channels' then this defeats the purpose of not having them on the EPG so they couldn't be recorded....

I could only find UTV HD, none of all the older ones work for me at all.

Here's the workaround for UTV HD

Try 11.053 H 22.0 5/6 Previous frequency has changed....again. This one gives you UTV HD works fine for now.

So what are Sky telling their loyal customers about this?? They advertise ITV as being available, does this only apply to ITV HD?

i think I seen them advertise UTV or ITV quite some time ago but it did state that available through "other channels" only.

No mention of any ITV channels on their website though.

Sky never advertised UTV or ITV as being part of their package. Imagining they did will not bring the ITV HD channels back.

Their "loyal" customers would be well aware that ITV is not, and never has been, available on Sky (in the Irish Republic).

Sky don't need to be telling them anything.

a sky box is not the best to get free to air channels and a lot of newer sky boxes wont work without the card to get free to air channels thats why its called a sky box for sky

I noticed ITV HD gone as as well the other day. Using a generic FTA box, done a manual retune last night. All the ITV regionals simply display as ITV HD, or UTV or STV. Any way of working out which of the ITVs are ITV London, without having to wait for a regional weather/news broadcast.

They should appear in the order listed on 11097 here. London is first.

    http://www.flysat.com/28east.php

I did a scan of the transponder to see if their full titles had been added which they haven't. But I got two extra channels called 21000 and 21010 but with No Audio/Video. 21000 and 21010 are the SID code numbers allocated to London and Granada respectively on the Flysat information. But they are not listed there yet under these channel names.

On 11068 London and Granada are still scanning as 20800 and 20810.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,568 ✭✭✭Gerry Wicklow

    When I scan 11097 V 23000 I get
    London 21000
    Granada 21010
    Meridian 21020
    Central 21030
    All HD all clear
