The Indo and their rugby obsession

    How come Lions "caps" count???
    Ridiculous!!

Because being a British Lion is apparently the pinnacle of the great sport of rugby. For over 100 years the four countries of the United Kingdom have come together to usually lose to Australia. Last year the Lions hammered Australia and the UK rejoiced. Despite Brian not playing his influence on the British Lions will never be forgotten

If you read the Irish Times etc and listen to women and men in the pub who never watched rugby 10 years ago they'd tell you BOD is the greatest living human being to pull on a rugby shirt. Never mind just an Ireland or a British Lions shirt.

    Its the Indo!!

Not even good enough to wipe your arse with.

They always go though phases of obsessions, public sector bashing, religion bashing, rugby worship, political bashing, look people are better than us at something finger pointing.....

I just stopped reading the that paper and read online instead.

All English, Scottish and Welsh fans and some players call it the British Lions.
Our own Stephen Ferris even calls them the British Lions. Such pride being a British Lion

What's your point? I said all fans from Britain just call them the British Lions? Of course they're officially going to be called the British and Irish Lions. Nobody outside of Ireland calls them that though

I think we need a poll to settle this.

In match commentaries I have often heard them referred to as just "The Lions". In the same way that Albion might be used as a shorthand in a West Bromich Albion game.

People are far more interested in "Celebrities" and foreign soccer players than an Irish man who has achieved substantive success in his field (oh yea ).

^ My comment from the previous thread on this.

So all the middle class are West Brit ****? And the lower class all support English soccer teams, watch Eastenders or Corrie, shop at British chain stores and holiday in Playa de Ingles?

    ^ Neither statement is true.

People are generally needy and have to have something to fixate on. The media provide this and more and more it serves the populace with it's reporting of drivel as filler for mundane lives.

The point is that just because some people say it doesn't make it right. Doesn't matter who or what they are. Luckily most people call it the lions.

I know two lads, nice intelligent and interesting people. They are generally good company but once the WWE comes into focus be it in conversation or on TV they turn into idiots.

    I don't get it.

To add they are both in their late 20's.

I'm watching Arsenal and Everton. Is that fake?

Everyone who watches knows it's fake. It's a live tv show with storylines and characters. Some of it atrocious with some of it very good. WWE themselves admit it's just a soap opera
People go to the cinema for Batman or whatever. Nothing gets said patronizingly about it being "fake". Lord of the Rings etc.. same thing.

    You're being pedantic.

But there is a real sport of wrestling. You can see it in the Olympics. Are there any fake rugby games on TV?

The only people who care about 'bod' are upper middle class **** and wannabe upper middle class ****.

Rugby is a total working man's sport down here in Limerick, always has been, the stereotype of the Heino drinking popped collar rugby head is a very Dublin thing for some reason.

When did i say anything about fake rugby game? Some fella Zonan or whatever his name is said "wrestling is fake" thinking he's hilarious. I responded that movies and a lot of tv shows are fake.

What on earth has Olympic wrestling or "fake rugby" have to do with anything?

Poll added as requested. Even managed to inject some humor into the poll options, despite my general disdain for rugby.

Your poll's in pretty poor taste tbh.

And the indo's priority of headline news stories isn't? You have just proved that point.

You shouldn't get so obsessed about it. There are lots of other news items and sports coverage available.

It's kinda difficult to avoid when a complete non-story is the top news headline on 1 of the biggest newspapers in the country.

If you go into a newagents you can't avoid seeing what is on the front of any paper. Even if you buy one of them you don't have to read everything in it.
