Latest news is they think I had the 2 broken bones in the back for some time. They have indicated at least 3 breaks in the cheek that are expected to result in a facelift, so if anyone has any decent plans for a new face please drop me a line.....

Looks like a nasty accident, Beasty. Very sore. Glad to hear that you are on the road to recovery.

Replying to posts with two broken wrists - that's determination!

Good luck with the rest of your recovery, even though you'll hardly need it.

I haven't been paying ye olde Boardse the attention it deserves of late (and how things have flourished in my absence...), and just noticed this thread now Mr. Beasty Sir,.... I am so sorry to hear of your tumble, and would like to join the masses in wishing you a full and speedy recovery xx

How is the pain today, any improvement?

  • Administrators, Social & Fun Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 75,722 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭Beasty

Woke at 4am and could not get back to sleep. Slighty changed paikillers, but still very painful when eating anything non-liquid. Been to doctors and on for an X-ray of the jawbone - supected break to go with the 3 already in my cheek. Due to eat shortly, but got to say this is a big benefit to my dieting plans.

Off to the maxillofacial specialists next week - suspect they will be recommending a facelift (currently have a nasty bump beneath one eye that I don't think they will leave untreated). Still looking for recommendations for what may be a new face. Arm pain not as bad as it has been and am awaiting appointment to check out the wrists

Is it like going to the barbers? "Do us a Mario Cipollini there please" perhaps? Bring a pic from the camper van just in case.

So, have you ordered the recumbent yet to set up on the turbo for when you get home? I guess the wrists will have to heal a bit before you can take to the road again...

I'd get an estimate on one of these. :pac:

No but wider plans are coming together nicely. I've moved the Wattbike into the house as the builders have arrived to re-build the garage. That means not only am I around to supervise the work, but the new training facility will hopefully be online by the time I'm fit enough to take advantage of it ....

That's a positive take on it!

This is the painful aftermath that you never hear about. Athletes and sports people are injured, we don't see em for a month or two and then they reappear gigs as new. We simply don't hear of the pain and inconvenience and recuperation.

It really puts me off the whole racing thing I have to say. Broken body, broken bike, confined to couch and bed, not to mention contract working where no show means no pay.

It's a long hard road Beasty. What's your gut feeling yourself in the aftermath? I've no doubt you will get back on the horse but will you race it?

  • Administrators, Social & Fun Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 75,722 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭Beasty

There's absolutely no way I'll give up racing. Only started this lark 4 years or so ago (after a not dissimilar setback). Looking on the bright side, it may actually allow me to concentrate on what may turn out to be my best discipline - the track. Can't see me competing before the track league kicks off at the end of April (and it may be much later depending on what further treatment I need).

My long term ambition remains in place - still got nearly 47 years to work on the hour record for a centurion .....

That's the one I'd go for too. I wonder if they'd do a discount for a group buy? :pac:

Heal well, Beasty. Being off your food because of an injury sucks (I've been there), but think how nice that steak will taste when you can chew solids again ;)
