Bought this about 2 weeks ago now, a years NCT, a months tax, the pic makes it look a lot cleaner than what it is ( I just gave it a polish)..Just needs a thermostat...

    Not bad for €950 ;-)

I thought all 1.8T Leons were Cupra.

The ad itself is very poor, some people don't know how to take the pictures and sell the car.

Nope. Seat produced a 1.8T, a Cupra, and a Cupra R. All different engines and the specs getting better as they go up.

BTW that aint a Cupra, as the Cupra came with a factory fitted bodykit.

Very nice. I have a real soft spot for the MK3 estate. I had a 2002 2.0 TD estate with 260k on the clock. Decent performance and economy and even being a base model it was a nice place to be.

Did you find that car on here?

I stand corrected then. Apart from body kit were there any differences - eg suspension?
What do you mean by different engines?

No difference in the suspension, except if I'm not mistaken the Cupra R got a larger ARB to help improve stability. There is also differences in the brake setup with the Cupra R getting larger discs than the others.

In terms of engines they all have a 1.8T but the basic 1.8T put out 180bhp, whereas the Cupra put out 210bhp. The BAM (engine code) 1.8T that was in the Cupra R put out even more again at 225bhp. Whilst the blocks were very similar (not even sure if there is any difference) the biggest difference and the cause of the variance was in the Turbos. There are number different turbo configurations right across the VAG range.

The Cupra came with this kit, whereas the Cupra R came with this. The one in the ad above has neither so is just a Sport spec I'd imagine. Still a nice car, with the leather but most definitely not a Cupra.

Thats the funny thing Kaiser, It was on DD for maybe two or three weeks and I never seen it on here(even though I was in and out of here4/5 times a day).

She might be petrol, but I'm happy with it for the moment..

A 2.0 petrol with leather (Ghia etc) and toys would be a fine bus as an Estate.

Mondeos always looked well in Estate form - it seems to be a Mondeo tradition going right back to the Mk 1 back in 93 - and continuing right up to the due to be replaced any week now Mk 4 current model

Completely wrong that yellow car is the revised cupra, which came out in 2003 the 00 - 03 1.8t was always referenced as the original cupra.

They are both yellow, so can you clear up what you are talking about please.

Can you point out where I was wrong in what I said?

Your last paragraph, the car that i posted is 100% a Seat leon cupra, the 2003 model came out with the sports kit, but the 00 - 03 model was the original cupra. Your previous post mentioned it was a 1.8T sport.

Because it is. Even states as such on Motorcheck.

Seat did produce non Cupra 1.8T. They came without any of the normal Cupra paraphernalia. Sharing the same engine doesn't make it a Cupra.

No mention of tax, and that'll be expensive on a 2.2

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,330 ✭✭✭✭MadYaker

Yeah but it doesn't need tax to be bangernomics, and anyway at €1350 its cheap.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,925 ✭✭✭GvidoR

I thought the idea of bangernomics was to post cheap & cheap-to-run cars.

That's the 'today I saw a yaris for sale' thread your thinking of ;)

You could buy that bmw and tax it for 20 years for less than a new 1.6tditdcicdi paddy spec grey box.

Doesn't necessarily have to be the smallest possible cars, but a lot of us can't afford to run cars over 2.0 :P

True. Not all cars posted are 2.0+ but, there is some great value to be had because of the tax system. Alot of car for the money and all that.
