Because the original tax is in region of 200/year.

And a camper is 102 EUR/year. Conversion can be done for the likes of 200 EUR or less, if you know how. We're talking bangernomics.

You didn't convince me - would take 2 years to get that 200 euro back.
Not worth imo, and - honestly - Wagon R+ camper:rolleyes:

What is the testing requirement when converted?
Is it still subject of NCT test or the DOE. Or neither?

If it's a campervan, it's DOE instead of NCT and only campervan DOE applies, which is fairly simple. Campervans were only DOE excempt or voluntarily DOE'd until about 2 years ago, then it became mandatory. Every 2 years, if under 10 years old, every year after that.

    I have joined Bangernomics!

Bought that 525 about an hour ago, it's in perfect nick, all the electrics work, engine is sweet as a nut, air con fine, tested for a year, taxed for another 2 months. Tons of receipts and service history. Test drive and I fell in love, steering is tight, gearbox fine, temperature fine, its perfect. 1350 notes. Pics to follow. First car i've bought that hasnt been a hand down.

Now to call the insurance office :pac:

Took these on sight, i'll take more shortly.

It is simply sublime. I was half tempted to get out and check the engine was actually running on the way home. But she made a lovely sound when I pushed her too down the M50. :p

20 quid of petrol filled it up to near halfway, not bad at all. Insurance wasn't even too bad either.

    Anyway more photos;

A years tax is 50 quid less than the price of the whole car. It really is stupid carry on.

Fine car and even with the tax I'm very tempted.

I would be sorely tempted to upgrade to that!! Although, and I could be wrong here, it looks like it doesn't have aircon, am I right? (possibly just doesn't have the digital climate control thingy)

You'll be able to drive really fast with the windows down so it will be grand

Honestly though i'm not sure, looking back on it again it looks like the driver bolster may have serious wear, it's repairable though

He mentioned 1400 euros when he mentioned that he was going to see it - tbh - you could spend 10 times the money (14,000) on a saloon and it still wouldn't be as nice.

proper car for annoying the "I spent 20 grand on an Auris to save a couple of hundred quid a year on tax" crowd.

Lovely car in all fairness :)

    Worth about half that ;)

Did you not see what Moneymaker bought today for less than that?

This is not an M Sport. It has sport seats, but otherwise it's a standard SE spec. Nice car all the same. I think I'd want a manual...maybe I shouldn't be complaining about a 1550 quid car :p

It has AC alright, mine has the same control unit.

Is that not a tech 1 kit on the saloon? It looks like it has the black roof liner too

Forgot the changed over to a tdci then. A 00/01/02 tddi model might be a safer bet then.

Yup. Even the likes of Daihatsu Hijet can be bought commercially converted with pop-top and they aren't much bigger. Mate of mine bought a camper like that for 950 quid. That's bangernomics, too.

Has to be bolted down. Otherwise, sure thing.

The engineer, that signs off on the report, if you convert from something, that is VRTd. Typically a coachbuilder or truckcenter.

Rosslare, if you convert from a commercial, as you have to send them the pictures for valuation on how much VRT you have to pay in that case. (VRT doesn't apply on cars, that have VRT paid, but 13.3% apply on commercials, based on Rosslares evalution of the finished camper conversion).

About 6 months ago, there was a VW Caravelle camper for sale, that was converted before the 1.8m was removed.

They had taken a minibus, stuck a hightop on top of the metal roof. Cut a hole the size of a sunroof, so you could climb up there and sleep (sufficient for partial 1.8m standing height). Stuck a foldable garden table into the bus and bolted a cooker and a sink into the boot. That passed no problem on the old rules, which were much more strict.
