Question: how well does a Horse work for getting around, on this Amplified map? If I go to all the trouble & expense of getting one, is it likely to get killed next time as soon as the sun goes down, or can I keep riding?

Well afaik horses can go up one (maybe two but I think one) block at a time without jumping and with jumping probably two blocks sooooo you'd probably be able to navigate a lot of the terrain but not all of it.

As for night, I'd probably keep the horse in some sort of pen, tied up, because that map is pretty dangerous at night as it is...

Huge amounts of creeper damage to the base of the tower but no obvious sign of player intervention or chest tampering. Also, the damage is actually pretty old

I wouldn't suspect anything other than creepers, he pretty much fights a constant war out there...
