I'd like to think can still take positives from the week. Yes, he threw it away but for 54 holes he played golf that the world knew he was capable of.

I can't see it effect him. If he has the right people around him , and is in the right frame of mind.

It will drive him on. Today was an aberration - he is so good he will have a good day and win by 4 or 5 . Pressure doesn't even come into it then.

There is a worry on the close ones - but he was in reality miles better than the field. Just a poor day.

That is the secret that all the psychological crap we read, is telling us. Don't be too up or too down about this today - just stick at what he is doing - will get a victory, and then - there will be no stopping him.

I'd say he will win within the next 6 weeks.

    Graceful in defeat.

I like that. It shows he accepts straight away he played terrible and he isn't just feeling sorry for himself.

He is still not fully back to what he was. This week his scores got weaker every day.

He needs to find a nice balance still as he is either super hot or like today stone cold.

I think he has only 1 PGA tournament to his name. Could be wrong.

That was his 2nd, at 24 years of age...
He is far from an unknown.
He is known as one of the best young golfers to break onto the tour in recent years

He's still not in Rory's bracket.

If that's the case every other golfer is an unknown

Great insight. A comment which reflects your own intellect I'm sure.

Rory should have won that from the position he was in and would be expected to beat those lads.

McElroy will use this anger and disappointment to drive him on to win some tournaments in the near future. Gutted for him.

I know that. Everyone knows that.

That doesn't mean Henley is an unknown.

Another terrible final round from mc ilroy after Dubai where he did the same is definitely showing signs of a choker
Still think he needs a new caddy

Wondered how long it would take before JP got a mention, funny it never happens when he wins.

He was a few inches (eagle putt in reg) away from being mentally strong whilst playing poorly and having a great caddie.

He's not back to his best, but the fact that he's challenging despite that is one hell of a positive. He has a lot more to add and the wins will be numerous this year IMO.

He's the most talented golfer on the planet in every aspect apart from between his ears

including putting????????????????????putting is not just technique but it's obviously a huge part as is the mental side of putting.

Rory's putting is not good enough,to me there's a weakness there of a big shove out to the right when pressure is on,nothing to do with between the ears just poor technique.

agree,i think it shows how hard it is to win from the front,i always think with Rory a few shots behind is better, thought he was a bit conservative early on.

But it's hard to win on tour, look at Jimmy Walker few weeks ago,he had a 6 shot lead going into the final round and just about hangs on.

A work mate got a tip for Henley, he put €2.50 each way on him at 200-1. €625 winnings I reckon.

Caddy comments keep coming up and as much as you would like to dismiss them, you cant help but wonder if Rory had a more vocal or well known caddy would he be less suceptible to nerves in the run in of tournaments. Personally, having watched the coverage tonight it seemed to me JP was very quiet. Obviously you dont hear everything on tv but not once did I see him try to settle Rory down after poor shots. Compare that to Henlys caddie who was very vocal throughout.

    OMFG, what a contest.

Late shift so watching the recorded program. Can't believe Rory, in his hands only to let it slip, beat a better field in 2012.

Amazing second to 18 in regulation, overall 7/10, whatever about the bunker shot on 16, poor bogey on 17th cost him.

Great T.V. all the same (love skipping the ads).

Now don't go being all sensible and reasonable.
Surely its the caddie's fault he hit a fairway bunker shot heavy..........

He didn't look like he needed settling down to be fair.
And why should the caddie do what we think is appropriate ? Surely he knows Rory better than any of us..........?

Its golf, sometimes you simply it bad shots at the wrong time.

Yeah, I get your point but it's just that the number of times that Rory goes into a final day ahead and ends up second best is more than a coincidence. Obviously 95-99% of it is to do with Rory's mentality but you have to wonder is he getting that extra 1-5% from JP.

I know what you mean but I don't think its an issue to be honest.
What more could he have gotten from JP ? Even the Sky boys were commenting on how good his demeanour looked despite the bogeys.

You need a little bit of luck to win as well as brilliant play. If Henley hadn't chipped in, or holed out his 2nd on the par 4 on Sat, Rory would be the winner. Its all iffs and buts, had the eagle putt on 18 dropped, no one would be questioning anything. Fine margins. He lipped out numerous mid/long putts over the weekend, that's just unlucky. Sure, he missed one or two short ones, who doesn't.

He's 5 wins from 9 times leading after 3 rounds, not too bad IMO.
