I said it was misplaced. It was a choke on the back nine, but I wouldnt necessarily worry about it. I wouldnt think that mcilroy will repeat it any time soon and I still think that as of now, hes probably the best golfer form wise out there.

the last 90 minutes of that tournament were dynamite, who gives a f**k whether he choked or not, henley choked with that ridiculous iron on 15, palmer utterly choked on 18 with a four footer....they all choked in one way or another. The only man worth talking about in that fourball at the end is mcilroy and I for one cannot wait to see what he has in store for us this week!

I didn't use the word 'consistent'
The stat that counts is 'wins' and for the immense talent he has he doesn't convert when it comes to the finish.

but you did say this 'rarely performs at the weekend',what an absolute joke of a comment.

teeing it up most weeks against 150 odd pro golfers isn't easy, you've got to luck at the whole picture, winning is not easy, you need every part of your game working close to it's best and you need that bit of luck aswell.

    Again,check the stats.

The shot on 18 with a 5 wood to 11 feet was not the shot of a choker.

Do you know what, you are dead right, it was the shot of a champion, and the shot of the golfer who I believe is possibly the best player in the world atm.

But all the other shots he missed fairways and greens with on Sunday and found more sand than you would expect on brittas bay...... They were the shots of a choker.

After the masters meltdown, and way back years ago in Switzerland when he choked en route to what was surely going to be his maiden victory, in my recollection this is only the third time he has choked. The first 2 can be excused, but there is no excuse for last weekend, he should have walked it.

I'm with Johnny fontane in that I'm not worried about it, over the last few months he has gotten himself back on track and last Sunday he clipped the kerb going round the last bend....... Next week I believe he will silence his critics and that's why he is my team captain in fantasy race to Dubai ;)

You mean this weekend? The World Golf Championships starts tomorrow... probably one of the biggest comps of the year outside the majors.

Two major wins both by 8 shots would suggest he can convert when it comes to it. Back to back wins in FedEx play off events, followed by 5 straight birdies to finish with a win in Dubai would also suggest he converts.

No golfer ever has or ever will convert every chance they get. Maybe you expect too much from him ?

I agree with a lot of your post, but what does that even mean ? ^^^^
If that putt on 18 had dropped, he was still after hitting those earlier shots and may have won and there wouldn't have been a word about choking. Of course, I agree he should have won comfortably, but I think that's just one of those things.

Its golf, people hit bad shots. They're human, not robots and they only strive for perfection without ever having a chance to attain it.

Tiger's press interview ahead of tomorrow's opening round...

And Rory's interview... Honest and frank as per usual and addresses some of the issues mentioned above on this thread.

I like Rory's tendency to speak freely and openly in some interviews.

I'm hoping Rory's honesty stays - sadly once the pr machine is in house - I can see this fall off. Not his honesty - but calculated answers - rehearsed,

In fairness a few years of doing media - the same questions , the same stock answers would do your head in.

Just watched Rory's interview there and i enjoyed it a lot. I wouldn't be a big fan of his personality in the past but i found him
very likable there. Nice dig at England football team too.

I don't think you understand professional golf. Yes he was hot favourite to win on Sunday, but it's not that simple in the real world.

Kaymer started Birdie, Birdie, Birdie, Double and bogey. Even par.

Two par 5's early in the back 9 for everyone starting there, nice way to start.

Wind getting up right now. Probably another hour or two before play suspended temporarily. Some heavy squally showers coming in.

Edit* make that one or two minutes! ha. Play suspended. This could be a long delay.

Are Luke Donald's swing changes bearing fruit?

An addition to this competition.....a super high-speed camera on the first tee. Check out the end result with Tiger.

Ah well players and fans safety has to come first.

Totally agree with decision, just annoying from lazy armchair person point of view:pac:

I guess it's Wii golf for me tonight so......the Honda classic has given me the itch again......can't wait for the weather to improve so I can get back out.

Hard to believe that I was playing golf last January and we're into March this year and still can't get out.
