would it be a very bold suggestion to say there should be a quota type system in place for beef. As eddie downey said its all supply and demand, if each farmer had an allocated amount they could sell .He was saying once the kill goes over 29-30,000 all hell breaks loose. If there was "QUOTA" system , they know the cattle numbers due to the cmms system. Markets could be sourced on the basis of these numbers and people could have an idea of price:confused::confused:

That might actually work..... So that means it won't happen :)

id say theres going to be a limit to the stock available come next year so quota shouldnt be that much of an issue. theres at least four suckler farmers around me moving over to contract rearing and dairy calf to beef, once they dont scare off shippers with prices for calves things should hopefully pull round.

IMO they would be better off giving the dairy farmer 100 euro per bull calf and for him to send him to the knackery. In another couple of years there will be very few with good continental sucklers if things dont change . There are too many fresian buuls in the system and this is dragging the whole beef price to the ground
