So out of curiosity how do you folks feel about letting other people drive your car(s). I had to lend mine to my sister for a few hours and I felt a little ill while it was gone!

Have you thought about getting a good sat nav app for your phone?

Have one already but my work are so scabby about expenses that once I move out of the ROI, they go mental when I have excessive data charges

Main reason for getting a sat nav is trying to navigate Belfast, I spend a lot of time en route there, but can't use the phone as it's too expensive and I'll get a walloping from work.

The one on offer from halfords has lifetime updates and lane guidance which is important in Belfast when you can up to six lanes in one go

    And please elaborate why...

Having a look at one for a potential swap for my dads 928 so not for me unfortunately :p

Cheers I'll drop him a PM

Download navfree. You download the maps (free) to your phone so no internet connection required, mines guiding me around Dallas at the moment.
Give it a shot before you splash out.

I took the OH's car this week as it's automatic and I was doing about 800 miles and didn't feel like putting up with killing my knee clutching in the appallling Belfast traffic.

OH was driving my car, and went to pick up a package for me from the sorting office. My car has recently been screeching in low gear.

A very lovely man waved him down (also driving an alfa), said the screeching was due to an alternator bearing having failed, advised of a couple of guys scrapping alfas who have a spare alternator, and they'd a great chat about mechanics.

I thought it was incredibly nice for a complete stranger to take such an interest and be so helpful, he gave the OH his number as well.

Fair play to David from Swords with a pristine 156

Other than my girlfriend, I wouldn't let anyone drive any of my cars. And I'd only let her drive the Legend.

I'm the opposite, I wouldn't mind somebody else driving my car.

Does anyone know of any decent Uk VW (or general VAG) forums.

Modern VWs I mean - Passat CCs and the like.

I know theres Briskoda for the Skodas - but which forums are good for VWs.

Uk Passats might do the job but you've to join that just to read the posts - which I hate as all I want to do is to browse to find out issues on Passat CCs.

Will sign up though if theres nothing else out there

Isn't Vag drivers.net a popular place among VAG drivers?

Stheno are you in need of an alternator? I've a hape of them in the boot if the 156 :D

Speaking of Alfas, that was one of the most hateful oil changes I've done in a while, 2.5 V6. Oil filter is virtually inaccessable with most filter tools. Not enough room to get the oil filter out between the subframe, power steering pipes and engine!!! After a lot of swearing and a scalded arm it came out. When my V6 is ready I'll be modding it for an easier change :)

If they're from the same engine then yes, if Alfa are anything like Nissan then they should be interchangeable.

And just download google maps, the as nav on that has served me well.

I must say Fitzpatricks Opel garage in Naas is one of the nicest I've ever been in. A friend is also picking up a new car here today and the staff seem excellent.

Stheno the engines are the same, just in different cars that's all :) I have at least 3 alternators I can think of lying about, 2 of which are from 2.0's and one from a 1.6

    I can alfa now! :pac:

Ugggh i need to go to bed, going home last night along the M3 and before the toll the car just lost all power, steering stopped working and ended up in the gravel off the hard shoulder, checked everything and no idea what it could've been, started the car again and it took off as if nothing ever happened :confused:

    Any ideas?

    Any ideas?

Fan belt loose, lost drive on the alternator and power steering pump.
When you shut the car off it could start from 0rpm again and not slip?

Just an idea as my passat used to do it and it's the only problem that could affect the two of the together.
