They are a stubbier version of the space wagon, share a lot of parts with the Mazda MPV

Alfa 156 2004 , if it's just that Lambda sensor gone that's a really good car at that price.

Potentially a decent bangernomics if its in decent order - but I never got the point of these cars.

The normal full size 7 seater Spacewagon actually looked nicer - or less crap depending on your view point.

Nice. I see the NCT is up however. My 166 has passed the NCT the last two years with the Engine Management Light on due to a lambda sensor issue. So, I'd be inclined to get the seller to NCT it to see if it's just a sensor.

Or at the very least, a diagnostic

Indeed, 2004 though so could be plugged in to ECU scanner easy enough to see if he's telling the truth , good to see a fellow 166 owner on the board!

Still struggling to find any decent cheap 1L cars on Donedeal or Adverts, prices seem to have crept up now aswell, I think Ill just give up, dont even need a car but wanted one for a bit of exploring this Summer.

The RvR didn't have 4wd afaik but the MPV did which its largely based on.
Also the Spacewagon came in a JDM 4WD version.

the RVR had a 4wd version with a 2l Turbo engine basically a detuned EVO motor. I used to see one daily in my old apartment parked beside me-

proper little sleeper for the school runs:cool:

Thanks Moneymaker, do you really have to bite the bullet and spend 2 grand though? I cycle to work and everywhere else so this was really just for fun at the weekends for Summer and was hoping to keep costs down, cant believe all the €500-600 taxed and NCTd Micras and Fiestas I skipped over all last year and now theres nothing, is it the time of year Im looking or something?

You'd get a 520i for less than that yaris. Buy it in june, tax it for 3 months and then sell it in August.

You'd also get an S class Merc, what's your point?

He asked for a 1L car.

Yaris has always held its value very well.

You could get a cheap Punto or Clio for a lot less then 2k no bother. Won't have the build quality of the Yaris though.

    It's the continued recession :)

You observed right. Small cars with small engines that are cheap to run are in demand now, that's why they are a lot more expensive than 3-4 years ago where indeed you could pick up a half decent NCTd Micra for €500

€2k for a 14 year old Yaris is brutal value for money, but there is nothing you can do about it though. Few people selling these cars and many people wanting to buy

Good value is where the opposite is the case. Everybody selling and nobody buying. Point in case are relatively new ('03-'05) big 2l and over petrol saloons, which are cheaper in Ireland than anywhere else in the world. That's where there is a lot of bangernomics value for money and fortunately not many people get this :D

Yeah I would feel disgusting passing over nearly 2000 euros for a 14 year old Yaris. Good car for what it is but 2000 euro? Ugh.

    Such is the market though.

They're all 4wd apart from the 1.8. They were called the space runner over here.
You could get the 2.0 TD from the galant too.

I imagine anything that was half decent in cheap Micra sized car land is already in the hands of someone that either a) keep driving it or b) will scrap it if something big goes in it.

The thing on the big petrols though - I don't think its just about the tax/extra running costs.

But some people just don't like driving bigger cars simply because they don't feel comfortable behind the wheel of a bigger car.

That on its own would push up demand for smaller cars even if our tax system on the CC system was even remotely in the same ball park as sensible :D.

I agree with you on the 14 year old 2 grand yaris - could never bring myself to pay that much for a 14 year old car.

Agreed. It's about perception of high running costs, which more often than not is irrational and not based on some simple calculations

The same reason a lot of people scrapped their perfectly fine 10 year old cars to buy new small economical diesels

In many cases their new car will cost them more in deprecation alone in the first year than the total cost of owning their own old car was, including tax, insurance, maintenance and petrol :)

Not to mention i've found in general small diesel engines are truly hateful things to drive.

The thing is though, you will get a good bit of that back when it comes time to re-sell and in between you won't have to spend much on maintenance on it apart from the usual consumables, it will also be cheap to run with low fuel bills and small tax. A half decent Yaris will also be very easy to sell on.

Deliberately leaving out depreciation AND purchase price of the new car from calculations completely skews the picture.

As does choosing to completely ignore all the reports of big bills on newer diesels - and thus pretending that repair costs will be nil on the new car even over 5 years or so.

That's how they manage to justify the newer car - in my experience anyway

Excel is a marvellous tool - but for best results - it needs the correct data :D

I'd hazard a guess that 80% of buyers of new small diesel cars have never even used Excel, never mind using it correctly with correct data :D
