Yeah that brought them up alright! :) Thank you Kaiser.

Now the stupid question, if a wheel is 5x112, can i get it to fit a 5x114.3? Is there an adaptor, or can i change a part or such? (it'll be a long time before I ever get around to doing this, if indeed, I do, but i just figured id ask now anyway.

I love the look of those wheels (always have) so I was figuring, it might be worth buying them for the rav, but keeping the Rav's own wheels. Then if I ever decide to sell it, I can swap them over and keep the 'monza-likes' for my next car (and whoever buys the rav, when that day comes, gets the original wheels that come with it.. which are pretty nice wheels, anyway).

Really don't think the Monzas would suit the Rav, man.
There's a whole world of after market stuff that'll probably look better if you fancy a change.
Check out Rota, they're copies if the huge name brands at reasonable prices. Used by race teams around the world.

If I buy it with a trailer it won't need anything but petrol and the cheapest rear tyres I can find. :D

After my Holidays (end of August), I'll be looking for real.

Well have to be honest and say that I don't really know the ins or outs of alloy wheels or such, but I just generally always liked that kind of iron-cross-ey 5 spoke design, and think it looks well (and would look well on most cars).

Only other wheels that have caught my eye (should probably point out I've never actually seen 'Monzas' in person) are the ones that are on the new... erm... Sportage, I think?

These ones (link, as picture is quite big)

    http://www.haitiautoparts.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/KiaSportage.jpg

But I think the shading and such would look odd on the Rav (whereas the Monzas look like they'd blend in seamlessly enough).

They just look like a nice wheel to me. :)

I'm sorry but how will golf gti alloys blend in on a rav 4. I think they will look fierce out of place mainly down to the fact that they are a popular alloy on golf gti and that's what everyone expects to see them on not a rav 4. Of course that's just my opinion and everyone has different taste so if you like them on the car that's all that counts. But I just don't know how you think they will blend in or suit the car.

Have to agree with OSI on this one.
It's like the people who put AMG alloys on vag cars or the like, it just looks silly.

Well I don't look at them as 'Golf GTI' alloys. I look at them as a 5-spoke version of an Iron Cross.

I don't associate them with any car (and I'm not trying to be funny or anything, but I don't think everyone as a whole are used to seeing them anywhere specific. I'd imagine that'd be fairly limited to everyone who's big into cars or posts on these kinda forums and such) :)

I have a few reasons. Some of them selfish.

The main reason is, I just don't think they'll look well. They're the kind of alloy that suits a sporty aggressive car. I also think they thrive on low profile tyres which you won't have on the Rav4.

Other reasons relate to the fact that I have them on my Mk5 GTI. The Monzas were a special edition alloy that was only available on the Mk5 Golf GTI (and later on the Polo and Mk6 GTI's as the Monza Shadows), even more so the 18" ones which have the diamond cut face as seen in your pics (I think the 17"s look terrible, but I know a few do prefer them) and it just pains me to seem them on other cars. It just doesn't sit well with me. To me it's as bad as putting TRD badges all over your Rav4. It would be very obvious it's not a TRD car, but you've dressed it up as one. I've also the alloys (or more specifically crappy knock offs) on a number of other cars and they just don't look right to me. I've seen them on Passats, A4s and even a Mondeo and they just look silly with stock floaty suspension sitting a good few inches above these aggresive looking alloys.

All my own personal opinion, but I just don't think they'd look well at all on a Rav4.

I see what you're saying there, but sticking different wheels from another car is hardly trying to disguise the Rav.

It's not like I'm trying to fool myself or anyone else by putting "sport" stickers on it or a "Nurburgring" track sticker on the boot. :)

I will admit that, I do agree with your point about them probably looking a bit silly with a load of space around them (rather than on the lower cars they'd be generally on).

But that wouldn't put me off buying the wheel. I'd assume I just need a bigger version of the wheel to help fill the space more? (I dont know much about wheels/tyres, etc. but if the wheels on the Rav are 17", presumably if I buy 20" wheels, the wheel arch doesn't seem as spacious?)

I'm not dead set on those particular wheels, but I'm definitely interested in something along those lines.

I googled Rav4 alloys and it came up on one of the Toyota pages.

Poseidon Anthracite I think they're called.

EDIT: Available straight from Toyota Ireland for ridiculous money: http://accessories.toyota.ie/index.php/catalogue/detail/poseidon-17-anthracite-machined-price-is-for-4-wheels-excluding-tyres-and-f

They're a nice wheel, but I wouldn't pay that (or near it) for them.

These look nice, too, but again, would be silly money (though I can't even find them). Car itself looks terrible though, in my opinion. :(

    RAV4-2.jpg

Would I be right in saying that if the day comes when I change the wheels on the Rav, I'd be best to get something that's about 20"? Would they look more impressive in general (I'd assume so?) compared to an 18" or 17" counterpart?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,473 ✭✭✭YbFocus

    Which rav4 have you kkv?

Edit: if you put bigger than 18's On that Jeep you'll destroy it. Awful ride quality and massive tyre prices, circa €1000 for four 20" tyres.

Think about this kkv do you really want to do that?

I have the second version, I believe.

    ADFB07480167488F9A9E8AC6FB66AB87-0000333410-0003470433-01024L-2F3C06959DE8428DB9306E5DBE6973B0.jpg

I know everyone has a differing opinion and taste and such, but I think that the version I have is the nicest of the bunch. The one that came after mine is also quite nice (though I'd still prefer the Mk 2, as it looks a tad more aggressive with the side panels and such, in my opinion), but the new one (one above) just doesn't take my eye at all. :(

I'm well aware some may have the opposite viewpoint (that mine looks horrendous and the new one is gorgeous).

Kkv they are a lovely Jeep but putting 20" wheels on that will destroy it!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,102 ✭✭✭dar83

You'll want the chunkiest looking alloys you can get for that to make it look well (or aggresive, which always looks well :P ).
