Metro's not as bad as y'all are making it out to be. I liked that map in BF3, but it's better suited to rush, not conquest.

As to the grinder aspect, well, that's a necessary thing in BF because you have to level up somehow. That's why there were 24/7 Metro servers in BF3 and are 24/7 Locker servers in BF4. You want to fix that, you have to unlock everything for people when they buy the game and didn't we spend a loooooong week bitching about discussing that earlier? :D

    Not again!

Not a fan of Locker either but it is way better than Metro 64 I think. Do PC players see much difference in SA to original BF3?

Obviously for console the difference is light and day.

I know we're only out of the gates with Second Assault but it's nothing new for us. We've been playing these maps for the best part of 2 years. What I'm really looking forward to is Naval Strike - coming March 25th.

    Battlefield-4-Naval-Strike.png
Next up is the Naval Strike DLC pack, which has a focus on water-based warfare. The latest Battlefield Blog post from DICE notes that the new content pack will launch in “late March” for Premium subscribers, presumably with a wider release to follow in April. The content pack adds “new weapons, gadgets, and amphibious vehicles” to the game, along with four new maps: Lost Island, Nansha Strike, Operation Mortar, and Wave Breaker.

Blow open a crashed passenger plane and capture fishing villages across the tropical Lost Islands.

Drop a submarine on your foes as you infiltrate a naval base or rush between shipping docks and rocky islands on the massive Wave Breaker map.

Wage war across stormy seas in the largest ocean stretch in a Battlefield map yet with Nansha Strike.

Storm an abandoned cliff-side resort, or get lost in the breathtaking vistas in Operation Mortar.
    KEY FEATURES

    *5 weapons all-new to Battlefield 4
    *Introducing the amphibious hovercraft vehicle
*2 additional gadgets -3GL (3 grenade launcher) attachment for the Assault class/Anti-Heli Mine; an aircraft disabling projectile for the Engineer class
*Carrier Assault game mode which is a re-imagining of the classic Battlefield 2142 Titan Mode

Yeah, that forgot the new Key Features of seventy-four Brand New bugs that will blue-screen your machine the day you install it...

"an aircraft disabling projectile for the Engineer class" - er, don't we have six or seven of these already? Or do they mean a third anti-air heatseeker along with the Ilga and Stinger?

Did you ever get to play BF2142?

What was Titan mode like? Worth being excited for?

Anal- I mean...Naval Strike does sound like it will be the best DLC so far...let's hope it lives up to the marketing speak.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,038 ✭✭✭✭Sparks

Played BF2142 years ago but never got into it much to be honest. Wasn't until BF3 that my head made the switch over to the BF school of shooters rather than the CoD school. (And at this rate, I'll wind up switching over to Arma3 in another decade :D )

    How Titan Mode works....

Basically Conquest for first half of match and then changes to Rush for second half....interesting how they implement it with the Destroyers and Warships.

Yes we did , and I disagreed with you , and you know what ? I was Wrong

I didn't realise it at the time because I thought ' shur we unlock them as we go and we knew that when we bought it , where's the harm in that ' but when you have to get lucky with a battlepack to unlock the sight you want , well thats just stupid .

Try changing the windows/sound settings to 16bit 48000KHZ(DVD Quality).
    Nope, no joy...
Also test between borderless and fullscreen. Some saying borderless is sorting it.
Nope. Got 30 seconds in map and then crash.

    But...
WE ARE WORKING ON A FIX FOR AN ISSUE ON PC THAT CAUSES THE GAME TO FREEZE, RESULTING IN A SOUND LOOP. WE WILL SHARE MORE INFORMATION ONCE AVAILABLE.

Meanwhile, battlelog (or at least the login part) fell over....

Soooooooo glad I paid for premium.

    Sorry for double post.

I actually had the soundloop today on Metro after yesterday being fine for me.
I changed to DVD sound like above and spawned back in and it played through ok. Now weather that was just chance or a fix, I don't know. I'll try more tomorrow but Metro drove me to whiskey drinking rage earlier. I had to turn it off or my keyboard was gonna take a hop out the window :o:mad:

SO my impressions of the latest DLC.

Metro, one of my favourite 32 player maps on BF3 has been ruined by the amount of grenades and the variety of grenades. 64 player is pretty much an unplayable mess of grenade spamming. Nasty altogether. I will look forward to some clan matches where grenades are not permitted.

Caspian Border is fantastic now, really huge improvement and the levolution has been done intelligently allowing different routes to the Hilltop. The border wall is another great change, best map of all.

Gulf Of Oman has some OK touches, but the sandstorm can be a little bit annoying. I was hoping it would provide cover to reduce the amount of sniping, but it didnt make much difference to snipers, although is does make a difference in the air.

Firestorm is great. The graphical update is well received and Ive enjoyed it.

Overall Im pleased with it. They seem to have fixed the friendly tags disappearing. It ruined the game for me and I stopped playing it because I was getting pissed of TK all the time. Wont bother you softcore players, but I only play hardcore and friendly fire is on.

I dont know if it was yesterdays Nvidia drivers update, or the new maps, but the game is playing much smoother than before. I play with GTX580 SLI @ 1440p and with medium graphic settings, I was tipping under 60FPS a lot, if the action got too much it became noticeable. Now I am getting between 70-110, mainly hovering around 90. SO I upped the settings to high which gave a bit more polish to the look and it is still great, usually not going below 60 at any stage. I have not tried the older maps yet as its late, but hopefully this is a sign of some more optimisation.

Takes a while to develop new tactics but after a few months with Metro at this stage I can pretty much move around the map without worrying about nade spamming.

I was playing metro last night and running from A into the metro station I had 7 grenade icons land at my feet.. Feckin 7. That's ridiculous, reminds me of nuketown on COD Black Ops.

Once that sandstorm blows in, you're effectively blind in a chopper as the pilot, gunner might have some hope with the IRNV sight.

Yeah in Metro I reckon its a case of learn how to deal and develop a strategy.. not that I can talk, im rubbish, but I still believe that banning grenades on a map is a bit ... easy..? Or maybe just the lvgs... **** them anyway. Love the smoke though.. good for tactical play.

Must say Gulf of Oman is totally broken, the team coming for the ship have no chance. Played 3-4 games on it so far and on a 800 ticket server the winning team has been 500+ up.

Metro on PS4 cant handle the crazyness, twice now it has cut out with the action.

Also where were all the SA servers last night?

Thought all was grand last night on ps4, went on between half 7 to half 10 roughly

Is it just me or is Metro actually more of a clusterfvck now than in BF3?

Their "fix" fails to take into account that the map surely cannot be re-balanced for the variety of new grenades available in BF4 or the fact that you still need to fight through B to get to A?

New tactics you say? I'd like to hear this! How do you avoid the bottle neck?

Metro is an absolute disaster. The mini grenades replenish way too quick and considering you start with 3, its ridiculous. The less said about the LVGs as well the better. Once we get the chance to rent our own servers though i think it's got the potential to play out a whole lot better. Reducing the player count by about half(20 v 20 sounds like a nice round number) would still give a sense of chaos not achievable on the old consoles, while the 2 new ways on to the B flag should force the defenders to spread out and in turn limit the sheer volume of grenade spam...........hopefully......

Any word yet on when rent a server is coming to town on ps4?

Well after spending more time with Second Assault yesterday I have to say, I'm not a fan of the new maps much.
Nothing sucks me in about them at all. :(
    Roll on the next expansion.

Nope, just the usual response along the lines of "keep watching Battlelog for updates". I think it was about 6 months into BF3 before consoles got the rented servers so it could be similar this time round.

Great big massive 1gb patch for the PS4. What the hell have they in that? Hopefully some serious fixes!

If we're lucky it might actually stop the Second Assault weapon assignments reseting. Really pissed off having to handicap myself every round just to unlock a gun I probably should got already. I don't have the patience to camp a tower trying to get kills for a while damn round. Especially if my team is losing, my competitiveness seems to win out over my need for fun :D
