I only realised recently that when you make your confirmation you are accepting the Catholic doctrine that started when you were christened and continued when made your communion. Having made my confirmation you think I would have known but it took over twenty years for me to get what it was all about.

    No regrets then?

Me in a coffee shop the other day:

    "Espresso please."
    "I'm sorry?"
    "An Expresso."
    "Oh, ok then."

I don't know which is worse, him being your father, or her being your daughter:)

No It is not lies! I was commenting on how much my bills were, compared to a much, much lager house with a more people and lot more electrical appliances in use, and a family member compared both and suggested I stop using a 42"t.v to listen to my radio all day and use my separate amp and speakers. I did and Hey Presto! I kid you not!
If there was any other reason for the sudden drop in cost then I sure don't know what it was.

    And by the way Dickie,
I don't think you should accuse people of telling lies. It's just not nice.

Lets say your tv is ridiculously inefficient at 500W and your stereo is really efficient at 30W. Lets also say you have the radio on 24/7. That's 338kWh extra per month @ a ridiculous 20c per unit, that's about equal to the savings you are claiming.

I don't know the first thing about electricity. I plug things in and out and watch the bills. Take a meter read and ring it in if i get an estimated bill.
Maybe there is a problem or glitch of some description in the supply.

I did have E.S.B Networks out to check the meter at one stage (a few years back) when the situation was reversed, and it seemed to me that there must have been some kind of surge. They assured me there was no fault.
I have a file of correspondence between Myself and the ESB, ESB Networks, The Energy Commissioners office and more regarding that one.
This time it appears to be in my favor, at least for now, so i won't go making further inquiry about it.
All I know now, is that when I switched from t.v to amp there was a huge difference in my bill.
Also thought I might be able to pass on the tip to Boards readers.
I don't really care who believes it so long as I'm not being ripped off! So go figure.

If there is no glitch then it was probably some other change you made, which you might have considered minor.

People just don't want false info out there, you might get people unnecessarily changing their habits.

I was looking at a 60" TV recently, it was only 125W. Now that would be the maximum draw quoted, when it is outputting full light ability and speakers turned up full.

Even at full power its 0.125x24x0.20=60cent per day if left on non stop. For 60 days its just €36

there could be something else you could make significant savings on. Bigs ones are heaters, kettles, tumble driers.

    O.k, Point taken,
I genuinely do not know what else it could be.
Now I'll have find out for myself by process of elimination before it drives me to distraction, because I thought I'd cracked it.
I'll get back with the outcome.

Just realised the other day that the higher tax band starting at £32k in the UK is on taxable income, i.e. after your tax free allowance of nearly £10k. That's equivalent to nearly €50,000.

Puts it into perspective compared with Ireland where the higher rate comes in above €32,800.

That the adjective 'moreish' means that it makes you want more.

I always though it meant that the food in question tasted like / had the texture of a chocolate cake / dessert, as that's the only time I've ever heard someone say 'ooh, it's very moreish'.

That the word 'SAP' actually stands for Sad and Pathetic. WHO KNEW.

This word was around long before sad and pathetic became common insults so I'm guessing it's actually an abbreviation of sappy.

    Don't

I also realised "second place" and "one second". There are a lot of ways to say second in different contexts how exciting for us all..this really did make me stop and think,, how pensive

Or whether the weather be not,
    Whether the weather be cold,
Or whether the weather be hot,
    We'll weather the weather
    Whatever the weather,
Whether we like it or not.

Just reading the Carvery thread in AA.
Someone mentioned a Bain Marie and I realised that a bain marie was what I had been calling a bamburri for years. I used the work in a hotel and heard that word 50 times a day and never knew!
