Feminist group 'Femen' whipped out their breasts and hurled blood soaked knickers at the Archbishop of Madrid. They were protesting the newly proposed abortion laws in spain which will see a more restrictive policy.

I think the heirachy of the catholic church are long overdo a bit of tit anyways. Lol.

Anyone think theres an appetite amongst Irish feminists to stage somthing similar against the hierarchy over here

Agreed with PucaMama. I'm pro-choice myself and I assume that's the viewpoint of these women. However, part of being pro-choice is respecting someone else's choice to be pro-life.

Probably not and they are prone to their own disturbing protests. It's a debate that would usually instantly turn me off to be honest. It seems to bring the worst out in a lot of people. I have my own views on abortion which I usually keep to myself to be honest. Not a debate I enjoy

I'm so torn, I hate feminist groups like this but I also wouldn't be a fan of the Catholic Church. I don't think I've ever felt so indifferent.

I was at an anti-war protest many years back where an activist removed her blood soaked pad and stuck it to a policeman's riot shield. I felt so sorry for the guy, who looked fresh out of Templemore, and it was more disgusting for the crowd who were on the receiving end so to speak.

I would consider myself a feminist and pro-choice but I'm not sure about this kind of protest- it seems to draw attention away from the issue, rather than highlighting it- note we're having a discussion on tits, not women's rights here. It also allows the other side to dismiss protesters as loonies.

I'll bear it in mind.

Don't approve of the action at all, don't approve of any attempt to censor dissent. The Archbishop is entitled to his opinions, as is the church, even if modern society considers them archaic.

I've no idea what boobs or blood are meant to achieve, apart from notoriety. Certainly doesn't make me respect them, since I tend to prefer civilised discourse as a rule.

The cynical part of me thinks FEMEN uses these protests and attention received to drum up donations to its founders since there protest methods completely detract from any message.

The paranoid and cynical part of me thinks that they are probably actually funded by the Star and Sun to fill pages and TITillate ;-) their readers
