He broke onto the scene in the late 1950s, selling over 25 million records in the space of five years, but his career took a downward turn when the Beatles and the British Invasion hit the States. However he found popularity in the UK in the early 1970s, before returning to his homeland and achieving fresh stardom with famous numbers like Solitaire and Laughter in the Rain. The singer reveals how he created his other catchy classics Calendar Girl, (Is This the Way To) Amarillo, Breaking Up Is Hard to Do, Happy Birthday Sweet Sixteen and Stupid Cupid

Friday 10pm & 1.45am, Sunday Night12.35am Neil Sedaka: All You Need is the Music
A programme from 1983 looking at the diverse range of hits by the singer, from the rock `n` roll era to a more lyrical age. He performs many of his famous numbers, including Solitaire, Bad Blood, The Hungry Years, Laughter in the Rain and New York City Blues

    Friday 10.45pm & 2.35am, Sunday Night 1.20am Kings of Rock 'n' Roll
Celebration of the musical icons of the 1950s, including Bill Haley and the Comets, Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly and Elvis Presley. Featuring some of the more scandalous tales of the era, from Jerry Lee Lewis' marriage to his 13-year-old cousin to the original sexually explicit lyrics of Little Richard's hit Tutti Frutti. Featuring archive footage of the performers and contributions by celebrities including Tom Jones, Paul McCartney, Cliff Richard, Jack White, Jools Holland, Hank Marvin, John Waters and Minnie Driver, who reveal how the songs of the era have inspired them

Friday 11.45pm Even More Guitar Heroes at the BBC

Plus, rare clips of George Benson, Leo Kottke, Link Wray and Tom Petty

Monday 9pm & 2.50am The Story of Top of The Pops 1979
A look back at a heady year for the chart show, which recorded its highest audience of 19 million viewers, as physical format singles peaked at four times that number. Social problems in Britain during the Winter of Discontent did not stop inventive musicians from making hay as eager fans queued up to embrace their output, and new wave, 2-tone, reggae, rock, folk and electro hits competed for the top slots. Among the featured artists are Gary Numan, Nile Rodgers, Jah Wobble and Woody from Madness

Monday 10pm & 12.50am The Life of Rock with Brian Pern
Middle Age of Rock The host profiles a selection of rock stars who, like himself, applied their creative energies to acting, charity singles and protest songs. Plus, former Top of the Pops presenter Noel Edmonds reveals how Russians tried to take down the aircraft carrying Phil Collins from Wembley to Philadelphia during Live Aid in 1985. Spoof rock documentary, starring Simon Day

I'd go with that Skid, not so sure I could take a "whole lotta" Neil Sedaka...

That little face peering over the piano....hhhmm...:p

The Disco Queens and The Guitar Heroes sound good craic....

I'll get the sequined tops and air guitars ready....they obviously go hand in hand...:o

Yeah, two hours of Neil Sedaka might be like eating 20 Candy Flosses. Some nice tunes, but once The Beatles rolled into town he was made to look very old fashioned. Although I have dismissed programmes like that before, and then got sucked into them so you never know.

    The unspeakable horror!

On the plus side, can the Beeb now start showing Dave Lee Travis-presented TOTP?

Maybe, although probably not just yet ...
Mr Travis was released on bail until a further hearing, to be held at the crown court on 24 February, to decide if there should be a retrial on the two outstanding charges.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-26177136
IF the BBC reinstate the DLT editions of #TOTP 1979, we should see him host the 22 Feb edition in a fortnight's time. And 8 more after that.

The drummer (Artimus Pyle) survived the crash and made his way to a local farmhouse to get help.

The homeowners spotted a 6'4" hippie covered in blood & actually shot him with an air rifle
