So why would the Croke park director say
The councillor said: “The most disturbing revelation to emerge from the meeting was the statement by Peter McKenna.

“[He said] a written agreement between the GAA and the local community in 2009 agreeing to only three concerts per year was to be ignored because ‘time moves on’.”

Here's the way I see it. River of love, end of the road, Weldinihio and all ye don't give one Fcuk about what me, my family and my neighbours have to put up with for upto 10 days and nights and all the other days and nights besides when there is an event on.

Well My opinion is I don't give a Fcuk about ye or about the 400,000 others not getting to see Garthy Buck$. Mores to the point Garth don't give one fcuk for ye either only for your $$$$$ that he's going to tear out of this country... Don't forget them when ye are on about good for the economy... He's heading off with 30 odd million from this (maybe).

Well I'll do all in my power to ensure that the sh1tbag don't get to wail his misery from the terraces of good old hill 16. But sure not to worry folks ye still have his 8 track to listen to in ur tractors while ye drive the kids around!!!!
you live beside or near a large stadium, what did you and the rest of the residents do in relation to objecting to the redevelopment in the first place? nothing by the sounds of it, it was given the go ahead because the council see no problem with a large venue in a residential area, probably not the best place for it but how and ever, other countries cope

They could all chip in a pay for a lawyer or they could represent themselves . It's their choice on what they do .

that was written by someone on this thread who claimed to be at the meeting, however we only have his word that that was said

They didn't object because it's a sports stadium that would be used at weekend days for sports . It's a different case when you use said sports stadium at evening / night time for a series of concerts .
So your argument on the stadium is really and truly null and void .

His word is his word. Just because the GAA can't honour their word doesn't mean everyone can't be trusted.

Where did you get that figure?
    .
Well there is 70k tickets sold abroad so that's 70k extra people visiting the country this year. It wouldn't be crazy to suggest that each of them would spend around 500 euro on average in Ireland so that 35 million euro being pumped into the economy from abroad.

Then take into account the other 330k people, who even if they only spend 100 euro each would pump 33 million into the economy, in particular the Dublin economy (and I would say that's a very low estimate). These are massively significant figure.

That's the guts of 70 million euro in spending for 5 days and again I reckon that's a low estimate, 100 million in spending would not surprise me at all. That's an astronomical boost to both the Irish and Dublin economy. How can someone in their right mind cancel concerts when there such vast amounts of money involved.

    .

And your only source for the 70k tickets sold abroad is the guy who is hosting these concerts and has most to lose:rolleyes:

This magical, mythical deal that no-one is privy to. Surely if the residents wanted to ramp up the pressure they would get one of the national papers to print out the full details of the deal?? Unless a written record doesn't exist? If so, its not worth the paper its written on. :D:D

I've also heard it on the news on Today FM and FM104, but never as the "top story" as claimed. Its a sensationalist story so obviously local stations are going to run with it. But the storms etc are being reported ahead of it. It'll be forgotten about by Monday.

    Can't wait til the 28th July!!!!! :D:D:D:D:D

I would love if they also printed the agreement in the papers just to read your comments afterwards and your backtracking, that would be funny.

Where is there 70,000 foreign hillbillies that would be willing to travel to Dublin for a gig?

The north, that's where. They will arrive in coaches and leave in coaches as soon as the gig is over. Anyone that thinks there are 70,000 people flying to the island for this need their head examined.

If everything is true on an agreement, like you said going to the national papers will help their case. One would wonder why they are not. Only that going to the papers they'll be done for libel.

Maybe just maybe the people in the area are trying to have a little class and want a resolution to the problem behind closed doors .
Also the silence coming from the GAA and Aiken isn't a good thing if you ask me . If it was a load of garbage why not call it garbage and move on ?

The fact he is such a massive name in the music industry, especially in the US will mean there is a lot of attention on the concerts.

Maybe that should be WAS a massive name.

no it isn't, all the problems you and others have been complaining about happen during those events do they not? why shouldn't it be used during the week for another purpose? theirs no way a huge venue like that would only be used for sporting events only, that should have been obvious to anyone, yet the residents by the sounds of it did little to object to the re-development, so now you will all have to put up with it i'm afraid

    Here's the thing

GAA match on a Sunday is over by 5ish and the area is clear by 7/8

Concerts go on till 11:00 PM and the streets a in the area are not clear until 01:00 AM

    See the diference there?

Also easier to head out for the day on a Sunday afternoon with the kids than it is on a midweek NIGHT!

    Maybe now they will believe
At a heated meeting between the GAA, Aiken Promotions and Croke Park residents, it emerged that a written agreement in 2009, where no more than three concerts a year were to be held at the national stadium, was to be ignored.

Peter McKenna, stadium director, told the crowded room that "times move on".

Are you serious going to argue this point for a person who sold over 400,000 tickets in a few hours?

128 million album sales in the US alone....and you use the word "was"

    How?

How do you KNOW this will happen when there is an agreement in place that it WON'T happen?

Why should they suck it up ? They don't want 5 extra nights of concerts and have a a written agreement so they are well within their rights to say no .
