You know Croker won't see a patch of that.

Garth Brooks loved Ireland and sang praises. He hasn't toured since 97/98 and retired early to look after his family until his youngest finishes school. Here ihe is coming out from his retirement. He never forgot us and we never forgot him. Here he is trying to put Ireland on the world stage.

Some serious love for the G-man right there. What are your contingency plans if the night you have a ticket for doesn't get rubber stamped ?

"Well, yeah, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"

Yeah aren't they terrible trying I meet the massive demand with people all over the country going mad got tickets. Remember try still haven't met demand, they would easily sell out another night.

The blatant disregard for the enjoyment of concert goers shown here is disgusting.

I never liked "the dubs", but it's going to a whole new level now!

Let me put you straight on your 'dub' resident bashing, I live fairly close to Croke Park and my neighbours are from Antrim, Monaghan, Louth, Meath, Westmeath, Leitrim, Wicklow, Waterford, Cork, Clare, Sligo, Poland, Brazil, the UK, to name but a few, and yes, some are even from Dublin originally, but fundamentally, they're all just ordinary people, trying to live their lives and not be besieged or forced out of their homes by big money interests. Yes, they accept a degree of disruption based on where they live, but they will not be bullied or bought off by so-called 'legacy' money.

I am from Clare, never lived in dublin, don't even live in Ireland, and I am in the camp of the residents (no interest in either Brooks or GAA for that matter). I think the whole 'Dub' vs 'country' thing is a complete red herring and the posters going on about it (whether serious or jokingly) do themselves no favours.

I also think that going off on tangents about child safety is pointless. Finally, I think that the fact that it's a Garth Brooks concert (as opposed to another singer) isn't really relevant either.

This thread is about whether or not the residents have a legitimate complaint, whether Croke Park are within their rights to unilaterally decide to add extra concert dates, and what decision the relevant authorities may make.

If the article liked to earlier is true, and the GAA/Croke park acknowledged the existence of an agreement with the residents because they are not going to honour because 'times move on', that would be a disgrace in my view, and I would certainly hope that whoever grants permission for these events would take that decision and attitude into consideration.

    What the actual fcuk? Hahaha

I love how massive Garth Brooks fans have got it into their dense heads that this whole situation is a slight on Garth Brooks...the residents of the area couldnt care who it is.Thats not the issue.

My girlfriend lives in the area and there have been countless times where people have parked in front of the garden and in peoples driveways. People piss in the garden, throw their rubbish in it, knock on your door/windows when theyre locked. Bus routes disrupted, the whole lot and thats just match days. This isnt just a few houses around the stadium by the way, it affects Drumcondra, Phibsborough, Glasnevin, Ballybough, Fairview, Summerhill, N.C road and other surrounding areas. Literally thousands of people...and yet you still have absoloute mongos giving it the whole "they should just move if they dont like it" bollox. The GAA are bang out of order here, unsurprising as the organistation is comprised of cnuts.

You do know every single artist who's ever played a concert anywhere waffles about how much they love that town/city/country? They're hardly going to come on stage and go "Good evening Ireland-this place is a fckng sh1thole." And please stop trying to create some monolithic shared cultural worldview- there is no "us" or "we", only normal people and those gullible enough to believe the nonsense pushed on us for the last 100 years. I presume you're the type who loves talking about Irish people being the best craic, about GAA being the best sports, the soccer team having the best fans in the world etc.

A whole new level of whinge? This is getting emotional. I think someone had a nice bath, shaved the legs, had to much Chardonnay with back to back Garth Brooks tracks folllowed by some Shania Twain and some tears. Poor mammy will have to drag you out of bed for work!
He never forgot us and we never forgot him.

    One comment amongst so many:

I live not too far from Wembley stadium which hosts loads of gigs and events every year and that does not include everything thats held at wembley arena. Do the locals complain – NO! Stop whinging you cryin oul wind bags! If i was a local business in the area i would be up in arms against you moaners!

Oh look a comment from someone who lives in London near Wembly. You have obviously NEVER been to Wembly and seen the roads/rail infrastructure and the person making that comment has obviously never been to Croker. As for the local businesses being up in arms? I will repost this

    http://www.independent.ie/entertainment/music/locals-vent-anger-as-sixth-garth-gig-on-cards-29987608.html
Conor English, of Phoenix Tyres, adjacent to Croke Park, said his business can only remain open for half days.

"We can only open for a half day, and then the roads are closed off. We still have to pay our staff," Mr English said.

I honestly can't wait until the licenses are granted. This place is going to melt haha :pac::pac:. As for the person who posted about "contingency plans" being drawn up?? If you read the article its just a local Cork councillor writing to Aitken offering up Cork as an option, nothing to do with contingency haha. Talk about spin.

    Yup

For our country cousins who may not have heard, EVERY Dublin radio station has had as their top story the report about last nights meeting between Croke park management and the residents of the surrounding area. This is starting to get a LOT of exposure and no matter what you all think it will be the Dublin counsillors who will be making the decision on these licences. Dublin councillors who will be looking for votes soon in the local elections.
many of who don't live in the area, local elections won't effect the decisian of those who don't live in the area, only those around the local area might vote against it to get reelected but if their outnumbered by those who don't live in the area it won't make a difference, people outside the local area won't be using this as a decider to elect or reelect somebody

As was said last night at the meeting... these gigs have gone global!!! Well guess what so has the panic caused by the meeting last night! It's being covered by Dublin radio stations today national and international Tomorro... Croke Park sh1tting themselves over the bad media this is brining to them and Aiken.

For the stadium director to publicly renege on an agreement and then have it splashed all over the press... So much for his marketeer of the year... he aint getting it next year..... Noooooooooooooo Way!!!!
the residents bullying campaign won't be going international, nobody cares internationally, more important things going on in other countries then a few residents in a small city on a little island complaining because a venue is being used

You couldn't pay for better reverse PR.
if you think this decisian is going to be made by a thread on boards your delusianel, reverse PR? don't make me laugh, a couple of people expressing an opinion on a thread isn't "PR"

Poor EOTR look here buddy... Chances are these gigs might go ahead... Chances are they might not but big issue here at the moment is that Croker is reneging on its deal. It's in all the papers every radio station is reporting it. If these gigs get cancelled or restrictions imposed I can assure you it will be big news abroad... This is apparently the "biggest comeback in hill billy music"... Poor Garthy is skint and has come out of retirement...

But again Croke Park are refusing to comment... Think there silence speaks volumes if you ask me...!!!

The pressure really needs to be kept up on them now at this stage.
I think its fair to say that GAA/Aiken fouled the ball and are now seeing that come home to them.
or maybe their making you lot fall into a false sense of security and infact are going to have more dates in cork and around the country along with the dublin concerts

What shows this the most is the fact the GAA / Aiken haven't came out and said

" We are going ahead with the shows and they won't be cancelled at all "

I mean the silence from them is a very big indicator that they have made a complete mess up of the situation .
or maybe their not stupid enough to say something is going ahead while its subject to licence?

you do realise it's 5 concerts that could potentially need to be moved and not just 2?
why would they care when they can try to hold the country to ransom and decide when the people can and can't use a venue thats for the people of the country? even if the concerts move the residents will have failed to stop them like they wanted to, they will just be shooting themselves in the foot by stopping local businesses from making money from the tourism and other visitors these concerts will bring

I know that some of the earlier news reports are directly because of this thread. Laugh all you want, but a small community being bullied around by a multi million euro organisation backed up rude and aggressive comments from the likes of yourself is going to do your cause no help.

But continue laughing, being rude and talking people down. It's what you're good at.

This magical, mythical deal that no-one is privy to. Surely if the residents wanted to ramp up the pressure they would get one of the national papers to print out the full details of the deal?? Unless a written record doesn't exist? If so, its not worth the paper its written on. :D:D

I've also heard it on the news on Today FM and FM104, but never as the "top story" as claimed. Its a sensationalist story so obviously local stations are going to run with it. But the storms etc are being reported ahead of it. It'll be forgotten about by Monday.

    Can't wait til the 28th July!!!!! :D:D:D:D:D

I wonder has Wembley signed an agreement with the locals stating they will have no more than 3 concerts a year, and then turn around a break that promise.

It's a simple fact, they signed and agreement and now want to cancel that agreement because they see an opportunity of making 3m in 5 nights.

The fact the GAA refuse to comment on the issue speaks volumes for the situation they are in.
theirs no evidence such agreement exists only from a couple of people here, i suspect it doesn't, at least not in writing

I assume you are referring to her comment about putting Ireland on a big stage.

What benefits do you genuinely think that will bring?

Do you think more tourists will come here because they see him singing??
