    The park
Although on second thoughts, this would prob not suit the promoters/money men/Mr Brooks.
If the have to reduce numbers to allow the gigs to be spread out over more nights, thats going to seriously eat into profits

It most definitely won't suit the people living around the park. The solution is not to shift the problem elsewhere.

So if you see it as a problem, and moving is not a solution then cancelling is the only option?

It's not a problem I got myself into thankfully, it's one for the promoters to resolve, but they shouldn't be bailed out at the expense of others.

    What is this thread about??????

Think it has something to do with needing planning permission to hold 5 gigs on the back of a tractor driven by a toddler or something.

"Well, yeah, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"

Its ironic that if the GAA/Aiken /GB hadnt wanted to milk the cash cow till she was dry and left it at the 3 initial GB concerts, they may have very well have gotten away with it.
As it stands now, I think they have royally shot themselves in the foot, for this summer(Garth Brooks) and for every future concert that wants to be held in CP.

Yeah aren't they terrible trying I meet the massive demand with people all over the country going mad got tickets. Remember try still haven't met demand, they would easily sell out another night.

The blatant disregard for the enjoyment of concert goers shown here is disgusting.

I never liked "the dubs", but it's going to a whole new level now!

I think(and open to correction here)what was said by the new manager said(as per a person who was at the meeting)was that "That's in the past, I wasn't here when that agreement was made and things have changed and we are going to move on" That's obv not verbatim but you get my drift :)

So the argument that Croke Park used is similar to driving and getting stopped by the Gardai for wearing no seatbelt and saying that as you were born before it became law, it doesn't apply to you? For a highly professional run stadium/event centre/museum this really amazes me. Do anyone in the Residents' Assoc have a signed copy of this agreement and who signed it from Croke Park/GAA?

Also, i live near enough to Croke Park and have been a live long GAA fan (i was in Croker for the club finals last weekend). I would have always sided with Croke Park on sporting matters but the way they have gone about this is bad form. Both sides haven't got on in years and to put the 3 1D concerts on and then 2, up to 3, then 4 and a fifth GB concert without any communication to those living besides the venue from what I've read or heard is a bit silly, to put it mildly.

The simple way to solve this is have 2 gigs this years for GB and 3 next year when he's on his world tour. Aiken/Croke Park/Residents - i'm copyrighting this solution.

    Also, the part in bold?
If thats the level of the posts that are forthcoming, well, the adults are talking.
We're trying to discuss the situation.

Tickets are bought subject to licence, so anyone that bought tickets did so knowing there is a risk of it not going ahead.

If your so sure about demand being huge nothing is stopping them from playing another venue...

I have suggested three other venues where it could take place too .

I'm saying you are taking s*it about Aiken/GB being greedy when in reality they were only reacting to demand for tickets by adding extra nights.

Care to expand on that point? Why in gods name does this boil down to your dislike of the dubs? If the concert was being held in semple stadium, and the residents were voicing concerns, would you feel any differently?

No offence, but you seem full of sh1 t.

so by your logic there would be 6/7/8 gigs sold out by now - because of the demand.....

id say all the nights will go ahead in croke park

Its ok nox, we have all heard you.
We know you hate Dublin and the Dubs, theres no need to get so personal and aggressive about it.
Like I've said, we have heard you now simmer down and shush, the grown ups are talking :P

Apparently these gigs are to be live streamed to the USA at $20 a time... This thing is growing legs by the minute this could be the biggest once of concert run in history at this rate it could be heading for 100mil in 5 concerts!!!

Correct, Dublin City Council hasn't issued the licenses yet.
I have suggested three other venues where it could take place too .

That complicates the matter given this is a GAA cockup.

Yes extra nights that are subject to licensing approval. Have a read of the very ticket you say you have and check the bit where it states that. I'd also check the small print on refund policies. Not looking good for your trip up to the big schmoke. Still you can always thank the RA for saving you a trip up to such a heell-hole as Dublin.

    That poor cash cow!

Yes, because it's a concerted effort by the entire population of the Pale that could result in the cancellation of the gigs.

I cannot believe there still people, and not OAPs either, who view the people of Dublin, a county with a population of over 1.2 million, as some homogeneous mass who are at perpetual war with the honest country folk and will go out of their way to get one over on them. You're living about 50 years in the past here man, seriously.

What is it about the 1.2 million people of Dublin that you find so unpalatable? Judging by your attitude on this thread there's every chance that the problem lies with you, not them.

But Mr Brooks is a good man and is only taking the money off all his fans because he loves them so much, hadn't you heard?

The arrogance of the commercial heads of the GAA - permission for 3 gigs - so let's have 9

Glad the residents have taken a stand

I wonder has Wembley signed an agreement with the locals stating they will have no more than 3 concerts a year, and then turn around a break that promise.

It's a simple fact, they signed and agreement and now want to cancel that agreement because they see an opportunity of making 3m in 5 nights.

The fact the GAA refuse to comment on the issue speaks volumes for the situation they are in.

Wembley hosts a fraction of the games that CP holds and it has its own tube connection.
    Next.

Ignoring the rhetoric, but you're not comparing like with like! Infrastructure, especially transport links, are far better around wembley. Your point re local business is a well made, but should this be placed ahead of all other considerations in your view?

Like I said before, I'm in favour of reasonable moderation.

He's such a good man that he has apparently cheated on BOTH of his wives.
His first wife got a fine financial settlement, somewhere in the region of $125 million dollars.
Now I wonder where he could possibly get enough money back to fill that gaping deficit in his bank account?
    Hmmmmm...............

Expect a lot of responses to that in the "you can say what you want about me but don't ever slag my Garth" mould.

You know Croker won't see a patch of that.

Garth Brooks loved Ireland and sang praises. He hasn't toured since 97/98 and retired early to look after his family until his youngest finishes school. Here ihe is coming out from his retirement. He never forgot us and we never forgot him. Here he is trying to put Ireland on the world stage.

It's been at least 2 pages since EOTR told us the capacity of CP. Almost starting to forget. Oh wait, no its 82000.
