sorry guys, clearly hit a nerve there
Why would you have "clearly" "hit a nerve"? You said Cork city and Galway city are the countryside as if it was a fact, and to stir. It was just noted that you were wrong, nothing more.

if they blockade any of the events it will show that they can't be taken seriously or listened to and i expect the riot squad to remove them by whatever force necessary

Its now a waiting game. The license application has to be in at least 10 weeks before the Concerts with DCC, but with One Direction playing in May, the focus moves to that license. There is another meeting on the 25th Feb, but that is in relation only to One Direction.

Either way, this isnt going away. The residents are not going to be taking any step back on this issue and its going to run and run. Aitken are being put in a very tight spot right now and it will be interesting to see how it plays out.

A community centre that CP don't contribute to the running of. A community centre that is inaccessible on event days... Shall i go on????

    Good neighbours my ass...!!!!
they still rebuilt the community centre for you, heres an idea for you, how about the residents pay for the running of it? its for you after all

I think that CP should not be allowed to put on concerts next year to make it up to the residents for their excessive disruption this year.
why shouldn't they be able to have concerts next year? they don't have to make it up to the residents at all for anything
    bazza1 wrote: »
the agreed concert allocation should followfor subsequent years.
why should it when they can apply for an events licence and have the council decide on the merrits of the event to grant one or not? its a system that works well.

Any increase in the numbers of gigs/events should be subject to agreement with the local community.
and have the community decide that no events can happen meaning the rest of the country won't be able to have access to a large amenity such as croke park? absolutely not

The promoter/CP should contribute something to local community projects, sports ,elderly youth clubs etc to the benefit of the local community in general.
no, they shouldn't, why should they? why don't these communities look for funding for projects on their own merits or even come together and pay for them themselves? why should someone else be expected to or be forced to do it? infact the GAA rebuilt the community centre in the local area, so they have done their bit, if they decide to do more good on them but they shouldn't be expected to

Did I misread the earlier comment or did the GAA not knock down the old one?

Knocking the old one and building a new one is of big benefit to the residents of the area.

I'm sure most communities in the country would love their old community centre to be knocked and replaced with a new one.

If I knocked your wall down because it was in my way would you expect me to build it again?

I would, but you are totally blind to the point I'm making.

If I wrecked your old car and gave you a brand new better one I bet you would feel you came out better than if I hadn't wrecked your car.

But what if the better new car had Garth Brooks playing really loudly from the radio for five days each year?

    Yes of course I would.

Why should they be praised for this??? Of course they must rebuild.

    Also see point above.

For the redevelopment of Croke Park The GAA knocked down the handball alley and centre at the hill 16 end of the stadium. This was replaced by the GAA in the new centre. At the time it was the GAA but now there is a separation and Croke Park is completely independent of GAA. In fact the GAA is considered a tenant of croke park.

By the way folks... very few residents are Anti GAA. In fact I'm a member of a GAA club and enjoy the games. What people on here are missing is that it is the intensification of Croke Park without the agreed consultation that is angering the locals. We're not looking for money tickets or anything. In fact a majority of local residents were accepting of 3 Garth Brooks concerts... but shifting this up to 5 was a bit too much.

How about a suggestion: Simply ignore all future comments from "end of the road". It's clearly a troll looking for a rise.

It could also be argued it was also a hinderence to the residents to have their community centre knocked down and out of action for a period of time .
Just because croke park built them a new one doesn't mean they are good guys . They knocked it down to suit themselves for the redevelopment of the stadium .
One thing I wonder . How can the people running croke park see themselves as independent to the GAA ? That is madness !!! It's the home of the GAA .

It would be even better. Garth brooks gets played in my car a lot more than 5 times a year.

I really have to laugh though when I see people making a big deal out of 5 days

Yeah, that might be where you struggle to be honest, not everyone is like you ya know?

What would the residents require legally to try to halt the concerts? Surely there are some health and safety grounds: Excessive pedestrian traffic during standard work-week hours, noise pollution during standard work week, emergency vehicle access to homes.

I've no problem with Garth Brooks. As a matter of fact I got tickets for my family. (Not my kind of music but each to their own). But the arrogance of Aitkin/GAA/Croker governing body is just staggering. To ASSUME that locals would just roll over and take it simply because Aitkin/GAA/Whoever say it's going to happen. Breathtaking.

all will be looked at by DCC as part of the decisian over granting the events licence

    http://www.todayfm.com/No-Slane-concert-this-year-

Slane is free this year as is Phoenix Park so far so I wouldn't be at all expected to see the Tuesday and Wednesdays gigs move to one or the other. I just don't see all five Garth Brooks getting the licences as it stands and the residents are not backing down.

Its would be impossible to have a concert Sunday night in croke park and have the stage and everything moved and re-set up for a Monday night concert else where. Its probably at least 3 or 4 days work to erect the stage.

Simple solution have them at weekend day in slane if that was the route they want to go . Just transfer the tickets and there should be no problems at all .

Yup that's 3 or 4 more days of noise and disruption that the residents around CP have to put up with but hey you don't care as long as YOUR plans are not upset.

and i expect the riot squad to remove them by whatever force necessary

    Great publicity so.

I think these concerts will probably go ahead but the GAA have misjudged this one badly and I think it will be a pyrrhic victory.

Like the church, they can't continue to push around everybody they choose with impunity.

Minimal noise and disruption, mostly during the day while all the dubs are hard at work.

Its very hard to have sympathy for the residents with their arrogant "we own the streets attitude" trying to ruin the plans of 160k people over a bit of traffic and noise in the evening for 5 days.

You have just proved you have no idea what you are talking about. Most of the deconstruction of the stage will be done at night as was the case when U2 last played with lorries driving by at 0400 in the morning
